Could be - could also be a deliberate move. Time will tell.
Amit Shah would do well to take a look at the way evidence is assembled & the quality of our prosecution. Assuming he gets that right there's the SC to contend with who're in a world of their own.
Just a couple of days ago the SC acquited Surinder Koli accused in the Nithari murder case where ~ 20 people were said to have been killed , some cannibalised , all of whom were children , mostly girls .
Indira Jaisingh representing the accused was known to have met Nirbhaya's mother seeking a personal pardon from her of the 5-6 accused in the rape & murder case of her daughter. She refused.
What we're up against apart from a well organised peaceful community who're more outraged about what's happening in Gaza than at home & will condone all such action of their co religionists are an equally well oiled well networked machinery of high profile lawyers ' an extremely sympathetic judiciary.
Don't be surprised if a Kapil Sibal or a Prashant Bhushan or an Abhishek Manu Singhvi ends up as a lawyer for these accused.
In spite of between 2-3 lakhs killed in terrorist related violence across India over the past 8 decades our entire approach to the matter is a joke & a very sick one at that .
And it's not just one arm or 2 of the polity which is to be blamed for this mess. Every arm is equally culpable from the government downwards to political parties the bureaucracy the police , various agencies to the judiciary the legal fraternity to civil society.
A nation where elements seek the setting aside of the death sentence of convicted terrorists accused of the assassination of an ex PM duly granted by the senior judiciary converting it to a life sentence on frivolous grounds & subsequent release of these convicts due to the length of their incarceration is not a serious country.
Nalini & her husband are now settled in the UK with her daughter who was delivered after the couple were arrested. Priyanka Gandhi made a high profile visit to her later stating to the press that her family forgave Nalini her husband & other co accused in the matter.
There were nearly 2 dozen others who were killed along with Rajiv Gandhi that night . Do they count for nothing ?! If one refers to our ancient texts whether religious or on statecraft it's repeatedly stressed once a person is crowned a king his life belongs to the state. The state takes precedence over the immediate or extended family.
What's the point in referring to our texts when most of our current generation seeks it's inspiration & education elsewhere with the frame of reference firmly being the west .
It's as if we escaped the darkest days because we learnt never to give up resistance only for us to grow apathetic distant & complacent once we gained independence with no care in the world for what the future holds for us when these same dark forces responsible for our misfortune throughout history are now resurgent inside our country in our neighborhood & the two are coming together.
