ABHYAS was first successfully flight-tested in May 2019 and subsequent evaluation trials are being conducted by ADE, DRDO. "This order would mark the beginning of series production of ABHYAS," the statement said.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on Friday said it has secured an order for manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing and supply of High Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) System, known as 'ABHYAS', from Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), DRDO. Post successful completion of this initial order, HAL said in a statement it would be identified as Development-cum-Production Partner (DcPP) for supply of this target system along with a private firm (50 per cent of the volume).

The platform is estimated to have large requirement from the tri-services, and DRDO laboratories for evaluation trials of missile programmes, according to the Bengaluru-headquartered HAL.

ABHYAS was first successfully flight-tested in May 2019 and subsequent evaluation trials are being conducted by ADE, DRDO. "This order would mark the beginning of series production of ABHYAS," the statement said.

ABHYAS is designed and developed by DRDO's ADE, Bengaluru. The air vehicle is launched using twin under-slung boosters which provide the initial acceleration to the vehicle. It is powered by a gas turbine engine to sustain a long endurance flight at subsonic speed.

The target aircraft is equipped with Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) based Inertial Navigation System (INS) for navigation along with the Flight Control Computer (FCC) for guidance and control, it was stated.

The vehicle is programmed for fully autonomous flight. The check-out of air vehicle is done using laptop-based Ground Control Station (GCS), the statement added.

Landing of CADS-500

New Delhi:
The Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra conducted a flight demonstration of Controlled Aerial Delivery System of 500 kilogram capacity (CADS-500) on Saturday, informed the Ministry of Defence on Sunday.

As per the Ministry, ADRDE, Agra is an R&D laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the flight demonstration is part of a series of activities organised towards celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, commemorating 75 years of Independence.

The CADS-500 is used for precise delivery of payloads up to 500 kilograms at a predetermined location by making use of manoeuvrable capabilities of the Ram Air Parachute (RAP).

It uses Global Positioning System for the coordinates, altitude and heading sensors for the heading information during its flight.

The CADS, with its onboard electronics unit, autonomously steers its flight path using waypoint navigation towards the target location by operating controls.

System performance was demonstrated at drop zone, Malpura from an altitude of 5,000 metres. The system was para-dropped from AN32 aircraft and then steered to the predesignated landing point in autonomous mode.

Eleven paratroopers of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force chased the CADS-500 in the air and landed simultaneously.

Shedding off its vintage weight, the Indian Army will soon welcome a new range of landmines which includes Nipun, Vibhav, Vishal, Prachand and Ulka to blast off enemy troops and terrorists trying to step onto Indian soil at the borders.

“A new range of mines is under development right from anti-tank and anti-personnel mines. This has been necessitated as all our mines were vintage,” Army chief Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane said in Pune. "Each type of mine will get inducted as and when it meets user requirements which will be soon,” he said.

The Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers under Engineer in Chief Lt Gen Harpal Singh is getting a new set of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines which will act as the first line of defence against enemy infantry and armoured columns or terrorists trying to infiltrate into our territory.

The anti-tank and anti-personnel mines are part of a display where the Corps of Engineers are showcasing the indigenous equipment that has been inducted into the Army by it for carrying out operations against the enemy and defending its own areas.

“Indian Army is going to induct 7 lakh indigenously developed ‘Nipun’ anti-personal mines which carry a potent mix of RDX,” an Army officer said. He said the mine has been developed by an Indian firm in partnership with the DRDO.

As a counter to enemy tank regiments, the corps of engineers are carrying out trials of the Vibhav and Vishal - the next generation of Indian-made anti-tank mines. These highly effective mines have been developed for the Indian Army by DRDO, and are at an advanced stage of user trials.

The new anti-tank mines have greater stopping power against enemy tanks due to their advanced design and sensors, Army officials said.

The Prachand, Ulka and Parth landmines are also some of the new mines that are coming up for induction into service in the near future, the officials said.

The Indian Army has also started the induction of high-head water pumps to provide water to troops deployed at high altitude areas along the Line of Actual Control with China.

“Indian Army started inducting 200 high-head water pumps which can help pump water and fuel to locations at higher altitudes. At least 200 of these pumps are being inducted into the Corps of Engineers under the emergency procurement powers,” said the officials.

I haven't heard of anything like that. Not a bad idea though. Forget loitering if DRDO converts the Abhyas to a simple suicide drone the Army's artillery regiments would be interested.

But DRDO doesn't work without budget sanctions. 😑
I’m sure even if it’s made fully capable to carry explosive payload, DRDO is not going to announce it, until specifically ordered to do so.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The extreme cold weather clothing system is majorly required by the Indian Army for its sustained operations in glacier and Himalayan peaks
  • The clothing provides an advantage of fewer combinations to meet the required insulation for prevailing climatic conditions

New Delhi: In a major boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission of India, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over the technology for indigenous extreme cold weather clothing system (ECWCS) to five Indian companies.

The tech was formally transferred by DRDO chairman and Department of Defence Secretary (R&D) Dr G Satheesh Reddy in Delhi on Monday, the Union Ministry of Defence informed today.

The extreme cold weather clothing system is majorly required by the Indian Army for its sustained operations in glacier and Himalayan peaks. Till recently, the Army has been importing ECWCS and several special clothing and mountaineering equipment (SCME) items for troops deployed in high-altitude regions.

“The DRDO-designed ECWCS is an ergonomically-designed modular technical clothing with improved thermal insulation and physiological comfort based on the insulation required at various ambient climatic conditions in Himalayan regions during different levels of physical activity,” the ministry said in an official statement.

It said that the system represents physiological concepts related to the reduction in respiratory heat and water loss, unhindered range of motions and rapid absorption of sweat while providing waterproof, windproof features with adequate breathability and enhanced insulation as well as strength features required for high altitude operations.

“The three layered ECWCS is designed to suitably provide thermal insulation over a temperature range of +15 to -50° Celsius, with different combinations of the layers and intensity of physical work,” the release said.

Considering the widely fluctuating weather conditions in the Himalayan peaks, the clothing provides an advantage of fewer combinations to meet the required insulation (IREQ) for prevailing climatic conditions, thereby providing a viable import alternative to the Indian Army.

Speaking in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘self-reliant India’, Reddy stressed on the need to develop indigenous industrial base for SCME items, “not only to cater to the existing requirements of the Army, but also to tap its potential for export”.

The only missing capability is the Anti-ship missile... At least HAL should add the Exocet missile to the list till the Brahmos NG or NASM missile add to inventory.
NASM will be a great addition. Its light weight, smart, stealth, virtually jam proof & with sea skimming capabilities , and IN is using it on our Romeos.
