Can't Vl-SRSAM work with the MF-STAR?It also has sonars.
I would have preferred the VLSRSAM/Indian X-band combo. MFSTAR/MRSAM made these very expensive.

We haven't seen such usage.Can't Vl-SRSAM work with the MF-STAR?
Well they expect it will take around 6 months for contract signing but ultimately it depends on when the GoI wants to do it. They can stretch it if they want to."After emerging as the L1 bidder, it will take around six months for the contract to be signed, GRSE said"
That is quicker than I expected. CSL was declared the L1 bidder for NGMV in 2021, contract was signed only in 2023.

The NGC is much larger than the type 56, it is somewhat like the Istif class of Turkey, though that is classed as a frigate. Though, yes we could have mass-produced the NGMV like we are doing with the ASW-SWC.Full fledged ASW capabilities and aviation facility is the main difference between NGC and NGMV.
However I agree, VLSRSAM-Indian Radar- Medium Range AShM along with a CODAD propulsion would have made is very economical.
We could have rolled out like the Chinese did with type 056 Corvettes.
It's bigger than the Talwar class at around 5000t (as per Twitter). Though I guess we won't be seeing the P-28A 'evolved Kamorta' now which like NGC was supposed to be multi-role.The NGC is much larger than the type 56, it is somewhat like the Istif class of Turkey, though that is classed as a frigate. It cant be bigger than Talwar class. According to RFI, its length is less than 120 meters. Other specifications also points to a smaller version than Talwar.It's bigger than the Talwar class at around 5000t (as per Twitter). Probably not. Talwar is 124m long vs 120m for NGC. Full load displacement should be nearly the same. The equipment fit alone indicates a much heavier ship than a typical corvette.It cant be bigger than Talwar class. According to RFI, its length is less than 120 meters. These corvettes are a replacement for the upcoming retirements of the Khukri, Kora, Veer and Abhay Class by the late 2020s - early 2030s.The NGC is much larger than the type 56, it is somewhat like the Istif class of Turkey, though that is classed as a frigate. For a next-gen replacement, the weapons and sensor fit on the ASW-SWC is quite inferior.These corvettes are a replacement for the upcoming retirements of the Khukri, Kora, Veer and Abhay Class by the late 2020s - early 2030s.
While they will bring a lot in terms of capability, numerically the corvette fleet of the Indian Navy will remain stagnant.
- 4 x Abhay Class -> 16 x ASW-SWC (Arnala/ Mahe Class)
- 7 x Veer Class -> 6 x NGMV
- 4 x Kora Class + 2 x Khukri Class -> 8 x NGC
The ASW-SWC are probably meant to be around a Kamorta Class corvette acting as a mothership which in turn will be guarded by a Talwar Class/ Brahmaputra Class frigate on picket duty.For a next-gen replacement, the weapons and sensor fit on the ASW-SWC is quite inferior.
Compared to Abhay, ASW-SWC has a piddly 30mm MG, no ASR or CIWS. This when we have local options for them all.
I know they are meant to operate close to shore and under air cover but these aren't exactly harbour patrol boats either.

Is there future provision for VLSAMThe ASW-SWC are probably meant to hang around a Kamorta Class corvette as a mothership which in turn will be guarded by a Talwar Class/ Brahmaputra Class frigate on picket defense.
They are meant to hang near the coastline and sniff out submarines. Pakistan Navy will have 8 Hangor Class (Type 39A/ Improved Project 636 Kilo Class derivative) so it makes sense to increase ASW assets like 16 x ASW-SWC and 9 x C-295 MPA along with some minesweepers/ USV to protect vital shipping lines.
I made a infographic on D-F-I and it sort of describes the Arnala Class except the 30mm CRN-91 which has now been replaced by the 30mm NSG (Naval Surface Gun) manufactured by GRSE under license with Elbit.

I see your point but a ship this size should've atleast had a 76mm SRGM for self-defence imo.The ASW-SWC are probably meant to be around a Kamorta Class corvette acting as a mothership which in turn will be guarded by a Talwar Class/ Brahmaputra Class frigate on picket duty.

The ASW-SWC are thus not surface warfare combatants but specialists meant to operate under the umbrella of a wider security net.

What good would that do? Main guns are like vestigial organs for naval warships nowadays. An old missile like a P 15M has more value than a 127/130mm main gun. 76mm SRGM like the Strales are useful as a CIWS using their DART rounds.I see your point but a ship this size should've atleast had a 76mm SRGM for self-defence imo.
The Brahmaputra and Talwar Class are there for that. This is a glorified missile boat and makes no sense to add SAM systems.Any updated (or last) photo of the Mahe class ?

In this day and age, P-15s belong in a museum imo. I think the IN keeps them around for sentimental reasons than any operational value. Swarming USVs are as big a threat in the littorals as on the open seas (+Shahed class drones). They need to be neutralized as far out from the ship as possible. Russian CIWS have tried and failed to intercept them too many times. 76mm SRGM is dual-role. Perfect solution for small ships when combined with soft-kill CUAS.What good would that do? If anything more capable than a UAV or loitering munition actually makes it past the Talwar Class/ Brahmaputra Class frigate then it's pointless to even consider the survival of the ASW-SWC. It would be better to cut and run than stand and fight in that case.In this day and age, P-15s belong in a museum imo.
