Arihant-class SSBN - News & Discussions

https://****/exclusive-s5-class-ssbn-reactor-upgrades-hint-at-increased-power-beyond-190mw/

220 MWth reactor coming....... 190 MWth while good not enough. Almost all current & future SSBN have 200 + MWth reactor.

S*5 will be a beast by all account. I am seeing something like a SNLE 3G or Borie-A Submarine in making.

Ultimate goal should be 24 SSN, 12 SSBN with 16 SLBM each & 48 SSK at minimum.... they should also look for underground submarine pen in Western coast in Gujarat & Specially Karwar which has mountains.

Need to have a Submarine base in Andaman in future as well..... our very own little Hawaii 😌

Any info on Arighaat and Aridhaman's noise level? Aridhaman will most definitely be quieter than the Arihant, not sure about Arighaat.

a blur image , taken from an aircraft landing at vizag , this sub is different its way bigger , taken on march 24th its clearly in the open so enemy satellites with much better resolutions got a pretty good image of it down to the hatch , i just don't get the logic of not showing it to the public , pretty stupid to hide from the people who payed for it

Any estimation about dimensions?

^^ it has nothing to do with showing off or anything. This is currently in building/fitment phase ie not in the hands of the user yet. Its the headache for shipyard and design bureau involved for entire safekeeping part hence not very high level secrecy is maintained, plus 2 of these boomers are rather ATV proto class than a full mature large SSBN.
Open area sub pens will always be visible from the above. Most of its goodies are inside, not outside hence its considered not a priority to maintain top level secrecy except on ground and you can argue that general awareness on this spying from sat image etc is not very high for the shipyard and designing org that maintain it. Once it gets in the hands of navy/SFC whoever operate these, we will see very little in public.

I think it is not the need for high speed that is the driver.
The more powerfull the reactor is, the more silent it is at low speed : the natural convection is then enough to run slowly (5 knots ? 10 knots ?) without needing a noisy pump.

Unconfirmed reports say the Arihant's optronic periscope comes from L3 MAPPS, probably the same model as on our Kilos. The ESM/EW mast is local tech though.
Hmm previously in the K5 related work tender (installation, canister silo etc) there was mention of this retractable mast for Arihant class submarines. lets see if anything substantial comes out in future.
