Agni & Prithvi Ballistic Missiles : News & Discussions

For some reason, I still do believe that we tested the Dhvani HGV mounted atop an Agni-V delivery vehicle on 08th May.
The sharp, almost 90° turn that we saw in the video is kindred to a blended body glide vehicle making aggressive manuevers to evade air defences.
I believe they launched the missile towards east and then the missile turned southward to orient itself towards the general NOTAM area and to bleed off excess energy as the NOTAM was fairly shorter than the usual 5000km+.

Also, at this stage (boosting) the HGV is just a payload and they wouldn't maneuver it attached with the second stage booster. AND we wouldn't see the HGV (alone) maneuvering without a thermal camera (unless atmospheric conditions are right for contrails formation).

Stresses on the missile body were probably insane, doing that maneuver in the atmosphere.

It was changed to a lofted trajectory, often used for testing purpose to reduce range so that impact of the RV can be observed. It would probably mean that they were testing new terminal phase guidance and composite strength of the missile body to sustain the stress.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh on Tuesday said the government is considering opening up ballistic missile manufacturing to the private sector, following its decision to allow private participation for the first time in the indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet project under the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
