Indian AESA Radar Developments

Data Patterns Concall:

Okay. First is Virupaksha is not our product. Virupaksha is a DRDO project, name for the Super Sukhoi radars. This is not ours. We call it by a different name. So, we never delivered Virupaksha or any equivalent to Air Force as yet. So that is the wrong information you have received. So,
we have our own versions of it. And we believe that, that will also be taken up by Air Force in the coming years. But because of the uncertainty and time lines, which I can't predict, we've not given revenue expectations out of those things and in our opening remarks.

Bars radar has peak power of only 20KW?
7KW as per open source and 10KW as per informed people.
Can a MKI even production 25KW+ from its current engines?
MKI's engines produce 60KVA electrical power each, so a total of 120KVA. Virupaksha's definitive version would be even more powerful than 25KWs(read more powerful with better software than HAWK I 2700).

We can use this radar as interim solution, right?

Super sukhoi is extensive upgrade program

It includes upgradation of generator which is projected to provide more electric power per engine than the current one

Is it confirm has hawk i 2700 is not in race ? And could u explain hoe virupaksha has better software and howbits more powerful ?

Interim solution? This radar is a direct competitor to DRDO/LRDE's Virupaksha. Both are struggling to have the pie in the sky. Since IAF is willing to test DP's Talon Shield ECM pods and HAWK I 2700 GaN AESA radar aboard an MKI, maybe they will split the order between both or select whichever performs better. Let's see.

India doesn't have a 6th gen fighter, but it sure as hell can make radars and EW worthy of a 6th gen fighter.

With this tech, the target isn't merely a blip, you can actually make out its structure at long ranges. Operate at such high bandwidth and frequency agility that existing AESA based jammers can't keep up all the while you run laps around the adversary's EW.
A few years ago the TTD level was around 4ns, now they've brought it down to 0.92ps.

(But then, the Koreans are working at a mature and deployment ready system which is quite ahead of this system, much less delay and truly ultra wideband performance)

Though Virupaksha isn't likely using this tech. There's a strong change that VISR-AX might be.

i might be uninformed but this sounds very similar to the photonic radar India is developing alr in site trials(TRL 6-7). we alr have the ultra wide bandwidth performance given by PICs used in the backend of the radar.

RFP for Multi-Mode Fire Control Radar
Scope of Work (SOW) and Technical Specifications (TS) for Shared Aperture Design Verification Module in S and X Band.

SHAPES Proto Unit Cell Test Jig
In this stage, development of a RF hardware to test unit cell of SHAPES antenna consisting of 4-elements (2x2) in X-Band and Single-Channel in S-Band to be carried out by realizing its critical items, viz., 21dBm (including switch losses in X-Band), 33dBm (in S-Band including switch losses) based convection (air) cooled design verification modules (associated RF Manifold for testing 4 element X band array performance), RF, power & control cable assemblies, Beam steering controller, frame with base fins for cooling, support structure, test jigs, test cables, test fixtures, test firmware and software for integration and function testing of sub units and complete Proto Unit Cell Test Jig.

SHAPES Array Test Module
In this stage, design and development of SHAPES antenna design verification module consisting of 144-Channel X-Band TRMs and 16-Channel S-Band TRMs is required to be carried out Each of the X-Band Channel and S-Band channel requires development of 21 dBm TRMs(X-Band), 33dBm(S-Band), Beam steering controller module (BSC), RF manifold for allowing sum and difference beam formation from S- and X- band arrays, housing frame with cooling, support structure, associated test jigs, test cables, test fixtures, test firmware and software for integration and function testing of sub units and complete SHAPES Antenna.

Project duration: 18 months.

Volume search and target discrimination ability in the same array. Who issued this RFP, LRDE?
