On topic, I don't think of the burning aircraft at all. People die or in this case was martyred. It's how they've lived their life that matters. His life and death were both - glorious. A sterling patriot like De Valera & Collins.

In short, he was not a martyr, because he didn't die for his cause, he died because the plane he used to runaway was not airworthy.
