1, its lighters and more open feel, and most current ballistic Helmets are only upto pistol caliber, not intermediate cartridge like 5.56 or 7.62.

But More coverage of low cut helmets can still be useful against blast fragments, especially with drones.

I know. I have seen those. The problem is these things don't provide any ear protection. COMTACS can at least provide you with some shrapnel protection.

If the PARA thinks COMTACS are too heavy, don't provide enough protection & are not worth the money, I will accept that argument. They must know better.

But then why would they go for high cut helmets instead of normal helmets. High cuts are designed specifically to accommodate COMTACs or similar over-the-ear systems.

In short they are fine with reduced protection for more wearing comfort

**3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ headsets do not provide rated ballistic or shrapnel protection for the head. They are primarily designed as hearing protection and communication devices (Level-dependent hearing protection). **

So yes, para sf do think comtacs are more heavy and don't provide protection.
( but given,over the ears ones do better low level noise amplification/situational awareness than in-ear ones .)

Then why not go for this: MAXIMUM PROTECTION HELMET

Instead of this: HIGH ENERGY AMMUNITIONS

The 1st option would provide some ear protection when used with a in-ear comms system while also not being too different in weight.

Indeed true.
But they prefer, the comfort( reduced weight and more open feel, well do indeed matter when have to wear it for hours)

If they start getting shelled by quadcopter with grenades or loitering munitions, they will start prioritizing full cut atleast on mental level.
Can't say about actual procurement moving towards full cuts or not.

Guess they figured "buy helmet now, headsets later...if we can fit them in the budget, that is".

Bhairav's entire kit is a mess tbh. There is zero standardization & as a result they end up looking like airsofters. Will be years before they're sorted out.

The bright side is, if they do end up buying headsets, they don't have to buy new helmets all over again. Keep in mind the ones in the pics are just bump helmets (non-ballistic) anyway. They won't be wearing these for active combat ops, mostly just for training & jumps. The ballistic helmets they got seem to be a hodgepodge mix of Mukuts, EXFILs & some others based on the videos I've seen.

That said, yeah other than MARCOS nobody seems to have recognized the importance of tactical headsets. Everyone else seems to treat them as a luxury add-on rather than a necessity. Hopefully that attitude will change.

MARCOS are pretty much always the first to adopt new kit anyway. Even the PVS-31s were seen in widespread use by MARCOS first, much before the Paras started issuing them. So there's hope that eventually the rest of our SF community will follow MARCOS' lead in this department as well.

slowly looks like they're mordernising. the new Low cost capital aquisition part of the new DAP 2026 will really help with the mordernization of our forces and the single vendor thing for TRL 6+ stuff will also help as well.
