Oh since when forces become a fund provider for R&D? Man this india, not Pakistan.
It was a mistake. Apologies.

40MK1 & around 180 mk1a is on order. 120+ orders for MK2 is assured. How many did it order?
Zero for development, billions for procurement. How much was spent on Tejas?

LCA Tejas: From National Triumph to an Accountability Crisis at HAL - AlphaDefense.in
LCA Tejas remains a national success, but delivery delays and leadership failures at HAL have triggered an accountability crisisalphadefense.in
The mess created around LCA Mk1A deliveries must be openly acknowledged, not papered over. Responsibility must be fixed not to scapegoat engineers, but to address systemic leadership and decision-making failures.
Irrespective of how it is done (expressing concern or pointing fingers), it reflects poorly on HAL as a whole. It was myopic of successive administrations to run a state backed monopoly w/o expecting it to....disappoint. Turns out monopolies are bad for customers and for the sector as a whole.Finger will be pointed at everybody..
So it won't be done unanimously.

I'm glad Rafale induction didn't happened same way...it delivered on time battle ready & fought combat in May.Sir would like to ask you, was rafale induction done same way? Were all promised slash contracted capabilities there or software changes, or more specifically "not battle ready"

First They should certify Mk1a as promised instead of begging. And waiting on Rafale ? says more about your imagination than reality.Period."The point is HAL can go and fall at ACM feet and beg them to induct Mk1A but Tejas will only come after Rafale deal is done, rest are theatrics![]()
Frankly I don't quite get this entire hullabaloo over the delay in Mk-1a deliveries. The entire controversy has been cooked up by GoI with IAF serving as the hatchet man & HAL the hapless victim solely to usher in the pvt sector into the hitherto closed & forbidden world of FA mfg.
In Episode 34 of #CtrlAltDefence, hosts Vishnu Som and Shiv Aroor tackle HAL's high-stakes moment: Private sector giants shortlisted to build AMCA prototypes, sidelining HAL for India's 5th-gen stealth fighter. Can HAL deliver capable Tejas Mk-1As on schedule amid delays and scrutiny?
The govt. saw an opportunity and took a call. A trainer project or working on Mk1A or Mk2 would've been better for the AMCA selected lot. We've had a discussion before regarding HAL before so I will not repeat my opinions here.Frankly I don't quite get this entire hullabaloo over the delay in Mk-1a deliveries. And we're perhaps the only country in the world apart from the converted Greeks who'd be contracting a 5th Gen FA program from a consortium which hasn't even built a trainer aircraft. At least here the converted Greeks score over us .
All these delays are par for the course which is a couple of years for a program which has already been delayed by decades. This isn't to suggest HAL is totally blameless or there's been a drop in the standards of their professionalism. They were always a semi professional company just as the entire system we've is a semi professional one from the GoI / MoD downwards.
The delays are worrisome from the PoV of the falling squadron numbers but as I've pointed out before we can still take out PAF with what we have, not only today but also in 5 years from now assuming they've 2-3 squadrons of the J-35 & 2-3 squadrons of the J-10C armed with the PL-15 & PL-17 whereas for the sake of argument the IAF in 5 years will be exactly the way it is today , without the Mk-1a, falling squadrons et al whereas the entire package of Mk-1a - all 180 nos, is not going to matter if & when we go up against PLAAF . So what's the angst all about?
I'd urge people here to get a sense of perspective & not be refined , more intelligent versions of Hydrocele. That's a very low bar for amateur defence experts.
So GE engines will catch upto airframe by the end of 2026.
To be clear that post wasn't aimed at you. I should've clarified that part. This was aimed at all those members who threw a wall of information in favour of their position in the past 3 pages neglecting to see the whole picture concentrating instead on the details. The govt. saw an opportunity and took a call. To be clear even I don't think giving AMCA to newbies is a safe bet. It's a very risky bet tbh. But, I think aside from what you said above (i.e Govt's consistent intent over these recent years), i think HAL's order book also plays a role here. They simply have too large of an order book to be given AMCA...Their production lines are going to go busy with upcoming next lot of Mk1A, Mk2 (+ potential additional orders), Su-30mki upgrades, etc.To be clear that post wasn't aimed at you. I know. I could tell that I have not reached the revered levels you'd described. I simply stated what I thought about what was discussed in the podcast in general. I appreciate the clarification.
