AIESL Completes Return to Service of Final A321 Aircraft for Indian Air Force
We are proud to announce a significant milestone achieved by AIESL's Delhi base!
Following the acquisition of six A321 aircraft by DRDO from Air India, AIESL has successfully completed the Return to Service (RTS) of the final aircraft, marking the conclusion of a prestigious project that strengthens India's defense aviation capabilities.

I find it puzzling why they are not prioritizing the acquisition of Netra Mk-1A more urgently. We can operationalised all 6 AEW&C aircraft in next 2-3 years easily. A321 based Mk2 will take 5-7 years to mature. It feels more like incompetence at all levels.

My guess is ERJ-145 airframes are hard to come by on the used market despite the total numbers of airframes that have been produced.

That is never the case in American civil market. There will always be someone ready to sell for a good price.

GoI don't have to buy the airframe themselves, they can just pay Embraer for the whole. They will have to overhaul and customise anyway.

While the acquisition of six Embraers from Brazil is already a done deal (the request for purchase or RFP, already in the process), there are changes in the paperwork that require DAC clearance. These are used planes and on them will be fitted the Netra, the airborne warning and control system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation).

India already has three, but the IAF needs six more, keeping in mind India's long borders, and the first will arrive in three-four years.

Separately, the defence ministry will issue a request for proposal (RFP) to purchase six Embraer jets from Brazil to mount the DRDO-developed Netra Mk II AESA radar, which offers a 270-degree view, the people said. The radar features an enhanced electronic warfare suite and network-centric warfare capabilities.

The government has also signed a contract to upgrade six Airbus A319 aircraft by the parent company in France, installing 360-degree rotodome radars to convert them into AWACS platforms. The IAF has sought refuellers and AWACS as force multipliers, a need felt during Op Sindoor given Pakistan’s greater AWACS numbers.
