French Military aviation update and discussion

It's pretty hard to say. In financial terms, the Indian ISEs certainly helped, let's just say that after negotiations the costs had to be shared, so there was undoubtedly a cost reduction for France, but in terms of timescales, making the ISEs operational in 3 years is quite an achievement, and F4.1 is arriving 4 years after the delivery of the ISEs. So this was only possible by giving absolute priority to the ISEs, to the detriment of F4 in terms of time. It's also worth noting that the configuration of the F4 pod and helmet-mounted sight is different from that of the ISEs, and that the ISEs took advantage of the Qatar contract for the helmet...
IRST the same ?

Here we go! The Strategic Air Forces (FAS) have just launched a new Operation Poker. It aims to simulate a nuclear air raid down to the smallest detail (except for the actual missile launch): refueling, actual enemy force, long-duration flight...
For now, the mission is being set up, with a rendezvous over Brittany and the first in-flight refuelings of the various aircraft involved in the raid.
Next, a simulated long-distance flight with a flyover of the Bay of Biscay, the Pyrenees, and the Gulf of Lions. Then things get complicated: the actual start of the penetration of enemy airspace (simulated).
Specifically, the Rafale Bs, carrying an inert ASMPA-R missile (but of equivalent size and mass), must arrive at a specific point, simulating the release of the nuclear-tipped cruise missile.
"Must arrive" because other French Air and Space Force aircraft are simulating a real enemy air force! They are also supported by French anti-aircraft batteries (real or simulated). But the Rafale Bs (in addition to their missiles) are also escorted!
Note that an A330 MRTT Phénix tanker has an unusual callsign: POKER250. It is therefore very likely that, with 62.5 years of continuous alert and four Poker operations per year, the French Strategic Air Forces are currently conducting their 250th Poker operation!

France is going ahead with SAAB GlobalEye procurement:

France is going ahead with SAAB GlobalEye procurement:

for 3 to 4 units.
3 is far too low.
4 is a very minimum.

It is in fact the EU preference in action.

GOOOOD NEWS.
It is a minimum, after the german treasons on MAWS and Tiger helo.

I don't know if the Turgis & Gaillard AAROK may be a substitute.

France to Withdraw from the Eurodrone Program (Airbus, Dassault, Leonardo)

by Jean-Marc Tanguy

This drone program was conducted in cooperation with Germany, Spain, and Italy.

In the midst of uncertainty surrounding the FCAS (Future Combat Air System) program, France is also facing a problem with another program. Faced with delays, cost overruns, and poor performance, it has decided to withdraw from the European Eurodrone program, for which Airbus is the prime contractor, supported by Italy's Leonardo and France's Dassault Aviation, even though the new Minister of the Armed Forces has not yet officially notified them of the decision. People at Airbus are excited about this program, particularly since September. This partnership, conducted in cooperation with Germany, Spain, and Italy, was launched in 2015 to meet operational needs for surveillance and reconnaissance drones. Unfortunately, it was apparently too big for the manufacturer, which has seen its schedule explode. It is four years behind schedule, and entry into service is no longer expected until 2030 at the earliest.

What's up with the series of cancellations? I think a few joint projects have been cancelled with the Germans/ other EU partners. Is it that interests are diverging or that delays are causing frustration?
Tiger Mark III helicopter. The Germans are arguing that their Tigers' low availability rate (which is not the case for the French or the Spanish) is the reason for abandoning the modernization program. It seems they are ultimately moving towards purchasing American equipment: AH-64Es.

The MAWS program. The Germans have not officially abandoned the program, however, they have decided to purchase 5+3 American P-8A Poseidons... which, I believe, amounts to abandoning the program initially planned with France.

In both cases, you will see that the Germans preferred an American solution rather than European cooperation.

Eurodrone program. Contrary to what my previous message announced (although journalist Jean-Marc Tanguy is usually reliable), it seems that France has not (at least not yet?) withdrawn from the Eurodrone program, despite the recommendation of a parliamentary report last June.

This drone is not suitable for a high-intensity warfare environment, such as the Ukrainian theater, for example: it was designed to operate in permissive environments.
If our participation continues and this program is completed, perhaps we could implement it alongside our future MAWS, similar to what the British are doing with their MQ-9B and P-8A. Our maritime domain is indeed immense.

I'm not talking about FCAS because there's a specific thread on the forum.

There's also the Franco-German MBT program, but I don't know what the latest developments are.

There is a list of countries that dumped the tiger and or NH-90, including Australia

I think the timeline was out on the MAWS, so they went with P-8A as an interim, It looks like it will be the final choice

Germany is ordering another 15 F-35, to take it to 50, I think there will be more

France is going ahead with its own drone and I can't see them ordering any Airbus ones, as per FCAS

European's are like herding cats, They all go their own way
