LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

For the first aircraft designed and being built within the country, the government should have been more considerate. However, the people incharge are in their 50s and have there own set of beliefs. A 'senior' babu is like that uncle who doesn't give a hoot about others. What do expect from a relic organisation (UPSC)? They're not producing the brightest lamps.

India, post liberalisation, has been hampered so much by lobbying, corruption, indifference, and political agitation that the DPSUs behave like any other PSU. Look at the general state of any government office and then paste that to the MoD. People do not realise how much effort has been put in to get even a single FA produced in the country (forget about the engine).

However, those who spit on HAL for Mk1A or Mk2 should remember that no private consortium in India has stepped forward to produce any FA (whatever the reasons might be).

The aircraft itself happens to be a good 4th gen FA for the first attempt.

GE misses LCA engine delivery in August; LCA Tejas Mk-1A production yet to pick up speed

Following a series of meetings between the US and Indian officials that took place in the last few days, the US major has promised to supply 3-5 engines by October, but fingers are crossed at the Indian end.

New Delhi: Production of indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk-1A is yet to pick up speed as engine supplier General Electric has missed its schedule of delivering two F-404 engines in August, even as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has built ten of these advanced jets so far, defence sources said.

Celebreating every single engine delivery now.

Imagine, at this rate, a scenario in future. Where HAL celebrates the last of the ordered engine being delivered by GE. We all sipping tea and reading newspaper. Thinking back to the good old days of being a young Indian defense enthusiast while disciplining our grandkids to be quiet.
