Shivalik-class & Nilgiri-class (Project 17 A/B) Frigates : Discussions

I wish they'd kept the enclosed RHIB bay amidships unchanged (via P-17). The rationale that exposed bays facilitate quick launch is valid. However, anti-piracy/HADR missions are best left to suitably-armed NOPVs, not frontline FFGs.

Otherwise, this is an exceptional design, imo. The RBU-6000s are probably not going anywhere for another 10 years.

The Nilgiri-class is notably larger in length, beam, and draft, reflecting its evolution from the Shivalik-class with increased size for greater capability and improved design.

Other than a single helo hangar, this is a DDG in every way. Imo, 8 Brahmos and 2 x TTL is still enough firepower to qualify as DDG.

Looks like Cochin shipyard is also planning to bid for Project 17B. It will be interesting!.
