Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Terroist Camps Inside Pakitsan

An ex-diplomat's perspective. Duality of standards is rather jarring.

The government knows what our losses are. The issue is how it serves our national interest to publicise them in the international context. Combined Western and Pakistani efforts are to keep the focus on Indian losses and not those of Pakistan. (At the centre is our purported Rafale loss and its link to opposition led attacks on government for the purchase of Rafales).

Pakistan’s credibility as an instrument to keep India in check has to be preserved. The reputation of its armed forces which are seen as guarantors of its unity has to be preserved too. Simultaneously, India’s military stature must not be boosted. The profile of a pacific minded militarily dependent India is preferred. The West has worked to maintain a strategic balance in the subcontinent.

That legacy is very strong and is difficult to disown. India is difficult to handle and while a rising India has to be engaged and economic opportunities exploited some pressure points have to be maintained. This is part of a hegemonic mindset. Other countries also do not reveal their military losses unless evidence is already available publicly. Iran claims it has downed upto three F 35s. US/ Israel are silent. There is internal controversy over the effectiveness of US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites which the Administration wants to scotch. It is under no pressure to reveal the “truth”publicly.Israel imposed stringent censorship on domestic and international media on reporting its losses. It is not officially clarifying matters despite Iran’s claims and media reports and speculation. Even Germany is suppressing any information on the blowing up of Nord Stream 2, its own asset, despite widespread international speculation.

UK’s F35 is stranded in Kerala for a couple of weeks and many damaging stories are appearing on social media. UK is not revealing the real reason. Look at the CENTCOM chief saying Pak extends phenomenal cooperation in counter- terrorism, and this after Pahalgam, and Trump wanting to mediate on Kashmir. This thinking requires an undefeated Pakistan.

Unfortunately, in our polarised politics the issue of our losses has become a tool for the opposition to attack the government, unmindful of the external impact of this domestic politicking. Why should we do self- damaging PR for Pakistan, sundry Western lobbies and Chinese weaponry.

My assessment is that Chinese have done great progress in Drone related AI, and have been developing drone carriers which they could deploy to overload air defence systems. Which means, expect close to one thousand drones in just one sector during air engagement vectored towards the air defence systems to fry the electronics. They have been doing research to develop new gen AI in their 5-8 years plan and next year one of their mile stone is close to end. It is very much feasible.

As for why things did not escalate further, Trump claims he threatened with trade to get India to stop, but I suppose the political objectives of the operation were met, even if our military objectives were cut short, regardless of Trump's words.
All of this trade leverage is BS. I mean bajpei tested nukes and America could not keep sanctions on for 2 years. Trump and his bluffs are BS. I think bigger issue is that India's Babu and political class has ZERO confidence in Indian forces. For the reasons best known to them.

babus & political class have more to lose bcos most of them & their wards are in west. They dont want to lose that elite privilege. rest of the things be damned.

If true, not good. India needs a better class of baboozies who can play the game -- cut through the deep state and make a deal directly with Trump on one side (easily bought as he cares primarily about self-aggrandizement) and wallstreet on the other (who stand to make better profits with factories in India instead of US).

India doesnt need to bend the knee, but it can learn to bow once in a while till it no longer needs to do so.

India and the United States may finalize a mini trade deal in the next 48 hours. CNBC-TV18 reports that discussions are complete. Negotiations for a larger deal will commence after July 9. The mini trade deal is expected to have average tariffs of 10%. Sources familiar with the matter provided this information. Further details are awaited as the situation develops.

Not ready yet to that level where such a large scale swarm can be neutralized, it will take a lot of time to employ it.

we should give them a befitting reply. 500% tariffs, my a**.
I don't think it will serve our interest...I think we should approach it like how Vajpayee approached US during aftermath of our nuclear test. Imagine if India too would have put sanction on US in reply to US sanction on india. We just need to be calm and keep pushing for an agreement as close to our terms and conditions as possible... whatever be the case ..never forget that US is still the richest, technologically advanced and most influential country of the planet...we must deal with them..

It already explain why US is totally shiffing to Pakistan help.
India is ready to become the third player in indopak region and to contest US and China. I think you have to consider Iran as a way to make your own string pearl containment against China and US and to agregate a large number of arabic countries thanks to india power.

Some years ago I was considering blocks like AUKUS/ CHINA./ and non align countries and I had considered that India could be at the center of the non align countries due to its large territory and population. You are in the center of a dual Sauron eye since several years to avoid you to take such a position.

France has bet on you since decades with Charles de Gaule. Hope you can now bring a human and democratic message against US and China imperialist and anti human message.

*Acquisition of 5th gen fighter jets from key Allies is also being considered in the short term*
This was given, a key disparity in capability cannot be allowed in the short term. Ceding the “see-first, shoot-first” capability to the Pakistanis was a disaster in 2019, there is no way we are going to allow that happen again. Expect small batch of jets coming in off the shelf with a larger batch being manufactured here under the MKI program. AMCA will take its own sweet time and by the time it comes in, it will largely be outdated in terms of technology that the countries that already have a 5th gen (also 6th gen prototypes) will be using then. We have dug ourselves into a giant pit and I don’t see an easy way out of that.

China and US may both wish to suppress the Indian rise independently, but it's crazy to think they are working together. Let's avoid imagining collusions where there are none. We have a very real Axis of Pak/China/Turkey/BD to focus on. And both India and US are aligned that China is the most dangerous enemy #1.

Jaishankar beautifully summarized US intention about India ...." Americans neither want a strong India nor a very weak India , they want a India which can be controlled at their whims" )

China too doesn't want a strong India nor a very weak India ( bcoz they have their products to sell in the huge Indian market ) they too want a India which can be controlled ..basically like the Sonia Gandhi UPA era ....Now tell me why would US/China not work together when it comes to India where their intentions are perfectly aligned ?

China and US have no strategic partnerships other than trade, which the US has realized was a mistake and is now trying to rectify through a trade war. Compare that to India, which buys US defense equipment, partners with the US in forums designed to contain China like QUAD, does NOT see itself as a near-peer of the US with intentions to project power globally (like China), etc.

I have already conceded the point that both have interests to suppress the Indian rise, but that doesn't mean they are *working together*. Currently this is just in the realm of a tin foil hat-- it may be worthy of more thought once India surpasses China economically and militarily _and_ India starts threatening US hegemony.
