Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile : News, Updates and Discussions

If that's the case I'm wondering about the kind of information China & the US have about our missile arsenal & we of theirs or at least of China .

There are lots of smart people in every nation. How do you think we managed to figure a way fool US spy sats after failing once? I doubt we had a lot of details about Lacrosse system in 90s.

Its called order of magnitude problems. You can rule out lots of impossible things by asking those questions.

Civilian open sourced data will set you on the path / alert you , but from then onwards for actionable data/info one will need to put in lot of work

Not that easy or simple, or maybe it is, I guess will depend on case to case basis

Eg raw was alerted to pork refining plutonium by analysing samples of hair from barber shops close to the suspected plant , initially they must have gotten a hint somewhere and then they worked on it and settled on analysis of the hair of the workers at the facility, as hairs absorbs the trace elements

Well, heavy metals do accumulate in hair. Mercury testing is done that way. Plutonium and other daughters of fission can be REALLY hot. So... grab those hair?

Sometimes, you just throw a lot of crap and see what sticks.

I am sure ISI, MI6, CIA and MSS have their own stories to tell.

Another thing which is lesser known is many years ago some guys were intrigued by the importation of large no of kidney stone breaking machines by porks

Than they realised the pork madrassa scientists were even unable to design and build spark gap triggers for their so called 'indigenous' nukes, I am guessing the Chinese did not hand over the designs of the same, which is surprising given that spark gap triggers are WW2 stuff literally

So they decided to buy the kidney stone breaking machines and used the high voltage triggers from the same to trigger their 'indegenous' nukes

Well at the end they were found out and west cut them off , most probably Chinese must have given them the design/manufacturing know how at the end

Indian nuke of 1970s was using EBW same as USA then
Now definitely ceramic/PCB based or a small chance already using laser based equivalent which is the most safest and reliable type known

LOL!

There are stories or rumors of Iran or some country importing Playstation 2 console to salvage its "emotion engine" chip for missile guidance.

And then there is this story of Kodak accidentally exposing American Nuclear Testing :

Seems they have completed Land, air and naval launches with indigenous made stuff? last 3 Brahmos trials were land version in ANC (posted a pic with the truck), air launched version from su30 capital trial (they posted a video), and recent navy ship launched. Look at the plaque

Wow ! That's ~ 500 nos give or take . Wonder when are the IA & IAF going to follow suit . We need all these missiles particularly the long ranged ones like Shaurya in huge nos meaning in the thousands ~ 2-3000 of each iteration of these missiles to be in a comfortable position. .
It seems the order is for 200 missiles. With that kind of price tag, the number of targets this missile can be used against, will be rather limited. India has to develop a cheaper option ASAP.

There is already a program called GlideFire which will replace the Kh-35.

That leaves about Rs 1,300 crore (Rs 13 billion) for 38 BrahMos missiles, putting the cost of each missile at about Rs 34 crore/Rs 340 million ($4.85 million).

Per Panditji the longer range variant also done maiden test.
Though hard to gauge it from test notam areas
also, why ships only? subs can also carry it & there was job vacancy that read like major missile vls fitting related work. So they can fit Brahmos on the subs in dual use role?

It's impossible to put VL Brahmos inside any submarine we operate. It's a 3ton/28ft missile. It's too big and expensive. Can't be used everywhere.

Then how come they show a sub launched version? we tested few times from a pontoon, maybe in future we will put it on a desi sub?

Indeed I chose the ~5 m USD price tag . Even if we admit to improved iterations 200 missiles for 2.5 b USD works out to 12.5 m USD . How exactly does an improved version of the missile go from 5 m to 12.5 m is beyond me . I used 5 m coz I thought 12.5 m was a misprint .

As per the news it’s 75 cr I.e. around 9 mil $. Few days back I came across another article which quoted the price as 8 mil. I agree there is no reasonable explanation why the price has jumped from 3 mil ( few years back) to 8-9 mil. But then anything can happen in India.
