Indian Naval Aviation : Updates and Discussions

Oh, you mean "purchase" jets for just 10 years?

Obviously not gonna happen. You are paying full price already. 30 years is the minimum you gotta use anything you buy, since that's how maintenance is scheduled. Post 30 years is when sustainment prices begin to hit the roof and you can get rid of it then, no different from what many European countries do.

Post 10 years transferred to IAF.
Anyways what u mentioned holds.
Experience gained using Rafale M cannot be wasted.
Transferring to IAC 2 catobar seems logical.

While tedbf for vicky + IAC 1

Don't you think you could have realized earlier that there was a problem?

It has to do with the requirements and capability of the industry.

The IN has always wanted 4 squadrons since the very beginning for the first two carriers. The IAF prevented them from buying jets, until they had to finally relent due to the carrier requirement, so that took away a lot of time.

During that time, IAC-2 became a CATOBAR, so the requirement shifted to that. However the IN still needs 4 squadrons for the first two carriers, so ADA is developing a STOBAR jet, either a Super Rafale or a KF-21.

There really isn't an issue though. The IN's plan is pretty sound.

Transfer to IAF for the Jaguar IM role after TEDBF is ready.

You have to impress a guy with a clipboard who's just basically ticking stuff off. He will only concern himself with the final results.

It's not necessary. Both are proven jets for landing, only taking off requires shore based tests because such facilities have all the instrumentation needed for evaluations.

The IN is definitely supporting the Rafale-M though. It is the better jet.

Since Both Rafale M & F18 were invited to test Stobar configuration, it means whatever method to use the Lift is already agreed right?

Other wise we ll be asking for demo for using lift also right?

Post 10 years transferred to IAF.

The IAF won't accept a jet in a totally different configuration anyway.

And the IN is not likely to have a one size fits all aviation wing anytime before 2060 or 2070.

It's a pretty sound plan. 26 is too less, but the alternative is 38-45, and too expensive. But I suspect, a 50% option clause will take care of the remaining.

The purpose of MRCBF is to ultimately use it on IAC-2. The IN is being very clever regarding this.

I don't think they will be landing on the carriers. If that is planned, then they can test it at that point. But I think they will just be asked to fit inside a marked boundary.

The IAF's not gonna take those jets. Same with the Mig-29K.

If I have to play devils advocate,

That means Rafale M and IAC 2 will be bought.
While TEDBF is kept for STOBAR configuration for only Vicky & IAC1.

Seems like plan is to support TEDBF partially and also Import partially.

Plan A & Plan B.

By the time TBDF is ready (15 years from now), the Migs of the Navy will be ready for retirement.

1. Can French Navy spare 4 aircrafts for leasing it to India .
2. When the 26 Rafale M can be delivered to India?
  1. We can rent you 5
  2. until 2025 everything is saturated: we can't supply all the Rafales promised to the French air force, we're 12 short. But we should be able to supply 10 in 2026 and 10 in 2027, but if there is a grouped order with the IAF, we can have an assembly line in India, which itself will be able to produce them in 2026 and the following years.

IAC-2 will definitely happen. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence has already recommended going ahead with it, and it's unlikely that the govt will not approve it. The navy has the money for it too.

The import compensates for any development risks with TEDBF.

IAC-2 is already approved. It's 50K mixed carrier with aircraft and UCAVs

Is it possible for us to order IAF & IN together to Make in India. ( 36+26 )
If IAF persistent with MRFA contract, it may be take longer time.

There's a pretty good chance the IN's fighter selection and the beginning of negotiations could happen this year itself.

Flight evaluations will end in March. It would require only 6 months or less to select a winner and begin GTG.

Only the plan is ready, the main design phase is yet to begin.

The IAF is not going to deviate from MRFA. They are going whole hog on undermining HAL with a new private sector competitor.

The IN has to make an independent decision. Interestingly they are doing the same as the IAF with NUH.

What could be the aviation strength, 60+ or 40+ or 40- configurations?
