Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

"by the end of this year", that is six months far away.
There is a weird situation:

In last 30 days (17th April to 17th May) total vaccines jabbed = (143+40) - (106 + 16) = 183 - 122 = 61 Millions. Which is roughly 2 million a day, what we are seeing.

We produce 60-70 million covishield and 10-15 million covaxin... Thats 70-85 million jabs. Unless we are throwing away 10-16 million jabs a month, something is messed up.

Is there really a scarcity of vaccines or are we having lesser ability to deliver them or is it something else that I cann't see. This does not look like a war footing effort.

It seems about a minimum 10 - 15 million jabs are just sitting idle somewhere.

Some folks say we are producing 90 million jabs. That will be weird because then we should be jabbing 2.5 - 3.0 million a day not 2 million a day.

This is line with what Centre is saying as well... Abou 20 million doses pending with states to deploy. 10-15 million went pending just in month back.

Vaccinations have been delayed due to lockdowns.

can you please explain in detail?

Supplies were hit initially for some reason at the local level, so vaccination centers went dry for some time. And post that was vaccination hesitancy amongst those above 45 because they feel safer at home instead of venturing out during lockdown due to the rising cases, so centers that actually have vaccines are dealing with free slots that could have gone to the 18-44 age group instead.

That makes vaccines a logistic and transport issue not exactly a supply issue.

As far as I have seen, Since March, SII has been producing 70M per month and BB 10M per month.

Though the demand is still high... people who are already infected will take the vaccine after 3 to 4 months.

No doubt. Its mismanagement of resources however. Overall we have 20 million vaccines lying around and NOT in the arms of people. Thats a shame!

I believe both SII and GOI are lying
Together in tandem and defending each other

Month of May has been a wasted month , we are not seeing even 15 lakh vaccinations per day

SII wanted to export to make more profits and GOI wanted international fame and popularity

If GOI had paid more to SII , they would have kept a reserve stock at home

Covaxin has been a disappointment in terms of number of vaccines produced and supplied

They were pre-produced vaccines even before getting approvals.

Nobody knows that.

SII claims to have delivered 200 million doses in total, as of Tuesday.

So we get 140 million for India.

The COWIN app registers 185 million injections. So that's 45 million for both Covaxin and Sputnik. Then we also have to take away losses due to lack of people showing up, resulting in wastage. The exact amount of losses is not known.

I don't think that SII will take that big of a chance.

In future , A Congress govt will initiate a Judicial Enquiry and SII will quickly blame Modi Govt for Vaccine shortages to Save itself

They will blame all these "Extra Deaths " on Vaccine Shortages which was clearly avoidable

totally wrong, we dont have enuf vaccine. Time interval between first dose and second dose has been increased by nearly 3 to 4 times for that very reason. In fact my mother is waiting for her second dose and waiting time given is 80 days which is totally ridiculous.

It is disingenuous to say that ppl are not forthcoming to have vaccine, it is only few percent of ppl who dint want to have covaxin but most of the general population are direly looking to get vaccinated. You seriously should stop spinning tales and putting the blame on ppl. It is a serious affront to the thousands of ppl who have lost their near & dear ones.

There is no doubt about the mismanagement, they are still behaving like petty politicians.

Exactly , it was a case of who blinks first. SII and others want to extract maximum funds from govt. Govt on the other hand acted as if everything is okay. As such there was no expansion or ramp up of production facility. Govt then started claiming contract negotiations are complex .....etc which was total BS. This has been the case for past 6-8 months.

Meanwhile govt was busy claiming brownie points by giving vaccine to other countries & fighting elections. Its all govt's fault they should have taken the lead , estimated requirements, driven procurement & coordinated the manufacture among different vendors. Instead they did nothing, leadership is totally missing.

Frankly at the international stage India has been exposed as totally incompetent and undependable. The stark contrast between china & India's handling has been laid threadbare.

When vaccines were being exported
Nobody amongst the General Public
Had imagined that in the month of May , people would not be able to get vaccines

Initially there was vaccine hesitancy
No doubt but when the Government was aware of a coming Second Wave , then they should have also anticipated
A Rush for Vaccines
