Rafale DH/EH of Indian Air Force : News and Discussions

Well... that reminds of that old joke

Man 1: I got mugged!
Man 2: Wow where and what they took?
Man 1: In the park, they had a knife and they took my watch, mobile and wallet.
Man 2: But you had your Glock on you, right?
Man 1: Luckily they never saw it!

Whats the point of weapons and army if you never use them to defend yourself.

Frankly I don't understand what's this all about. Both the IAF & IA bases are pretty secluded & located at the other end of where the civilian population resides. If ppl stand up in their terraces & try & snap photos what's the police or the IAF going to do about it.

This order will allow IAF and the Administration to keep tabs on the villages through Drones

And then later conduct a sweeping operation to confiscate any photos or videos that might be taken

Some People love to break the Law

It has nothing to do with the pics & videos, rather it "seems" to be case of not letting the guard down, especially when terrorist attack is imminent in neighbourhood. I am still not sure of it though.

This rafale circus is really cringy, coupled with the sensationalist and jaahil type of media we have, the embarrassment is through the roof. Meanwhile everyone has pretty much forgotten about tejas. Read somewhere, "First aircraft acquisition in 20 years". BC, is tejas a foreign aircraft? Wasn't it inducted in 2016?

Itna bhi mat chaato, ki land hone se pehele hi rafale ki gaand ghis jaaye.

Haha. But this will pre-empt negative news about the purchase, so that more Rafale can be bought without political interference from the Congress.

As a engineer i can tell you, buying individual parts and assembling is always more expensive than buying a fully assembled equipment.
MMRCA should be pursued with more vigor. Not shelved. A homegrown jet with even 75% of the sophistication of rafale, can be used in large numbers to offset quality.
Where our 250+ sukhois fit in is a never ending puzzle for me ? We are still buying more of them but seem to have more faith in the m2000 of the 80s.
Are we capable to do that without external help in a short span?

MMRCA if completed within reasonable price increase compared to direct imports from a country. Total support.

Su30MKI is heavy duty air superiority primarily. It simply means that once Rafales complete their SEAD/DEAD in case of a conflict, an airspace with Su30MKI on its own without any supporting aircrafts will deter any possible flying machine our enemies have or may have even for next decade.

It's radar might be PESA , but it's capabilities to multi task is a big advantage in any cluttered conflicted airspace. No AESA of China will come even close to what our Bars is capable of doing in a cluttered airspace against a larger number of targets all at once. Russians do have an AESA now, it's just not a very big upgrade over our PESA , that's why we are still waiting. We spent quite a big amount on ToT for Bars.

What's F15 for US armed forces, Su30MKI is for us.
MKI when it was inducted,it was an air superiority fighter and it would be the IAF choice for initial strike ove PAF, but IAF keep on inducting it without any upgrade made it to wait till sead job done by some one else.

By the way did we learn anything with Bars's TOT?

Leave Bars, likes of OFB have been sitting on Bofors blueprints since 1980s and have not even bothered to produce that artillery piece. Arty is one of the weak foot of Indian Army and Indian government manufactures are sitting on the blueprint of an inducted arty without doing anything.

The original plan was to replace a large part of Russian components in the radar with Indian components from the ToT received. And as usual, we delayed even that by a decade.

Rest it's like Bofors things, expertise lying around unused. While DRDO is reinventing the wheel.

Means no matter what technology we purchase, its gonna unuded. Better we purchase rafale from french people, on time delivery & less cost with a better built quality

There surely exists one.

It's not possible to do it. Any change requires significant rewriting of the software. We can't do that since we don't own the radar.

And any attempt to change anything on the radar will be prohibitely expensive. Not to mention, the Russians won't allow it anyway.
You are talking about this : Mutual Defense Treaty (United States–South Korea) - Wikipedia , right?

First its mutual.
Second its "faces external armed attack".
Indeed if North Korean forces started to move into South Korea, it will cause war.

BTW, you DO realize that North Korea became a nuclear power much more recently, right? When the last terrorist attack you mentioned happened, in 1987 or so, North Korea had not tested any nuclear weapons.

Hence, you argument "Sure, only non-nuclear powers are targets. Not even North Korea." is wrong. All the terrorist incidences you mentioned predate North Korea's status as a nuclear power. By almost 2 decades.

So now you are trying to draw differences between a terror attack and a conventional attack? Mutual defence means what I said it does.

As for nuclear power, that's what I meant. The US hasn't even bothered to take revenge on non-nuclear powers, even North Korea, whereas we even attacked the sovereign territory of a nuclear power.

It was not something we added later, it was the part of original contract with the Russians.

US will not spare anyone if anyone attacks them, its 100% certain. No matter you are nuclear or non nuclear, only exception was recent iranian pre informed attack on iraq.

And for the last para, by being a nuclear power we too got aerial attack from enemy last year & our territory was encroached by another country. And one another worthless military power started claiming our territory.

What you are referring to are the two radar computers which are Indian. That was done right since the beginning. I believe it was completed in 2007 and gave the radar a significant boost in detection and tracking range.

There are no component level changes to the radar itself.
