US advancing and Mexico going home makes this soooo delicious. "They" always talk sht about US soccer even though since 2000 when US got somewhat serious about soccer US win-Draw-Loss record against Mexico is 17–7–9. US will likely lose against Nederlands but who cares US advance and Mexico didn't!

In fairness Mexico had a harder group.
Looks like if Argentina was planning to avoid Brazil by losing to Saudi Arabia it didn't work anyway. Saudi Arabia's goal against Mexico put them out on GD (Goal Difference).
Belgium is out in the group stage after finishing 3rd in 2018. Germany only scrape through with a win, a loss and a draw.
US draws Netherlands in last 16, that will be a difficult match to win @Innominate.
UK play Senegal. France play Poland.

What are you talking about US had Wales and UK. Have you seen Wale's roster? It's an all star team. If US had Wale's roster US soccer fans would start predicting going at least to semi-finals. Iran and Saudi even themselves out.

This is the first World Cup Wales has played in since 1958, and they've only ever played in those two. They're the UK's 3rd team, with Scotland being the second.

You know what group is/was the most difficult... the one with Spain and Germany and Nippon beat both of them to win the group now that is impressive.
More impressive is Nippon was down against Germany and Spain and came back against these two powerhouses of world soccer. Good for them.

To those who came in late this hasn't anything to do with the war UK won against Argentina over the Falklands. This has everything to do with the infamous hand of God incident concerning Maradona in the QF of the 1986 FIFA WC between England & Argentina which the latter won .
To rub it in further Argentina won the WC that year thanks to Maradona's heroics. The English press never quite forgot or forgave him . They hounded him till his death .
How far do you think England will progress Paddy ? There used to be a time when Indian English language dailies used to be choc a block about the England team in the WC with the English press classifying the English team as either the best or among the top 3 only to see England get eliminated in the league games mostly & if not there then the knock out stages. Thank God the Indian press doesn't carry much about England & it's team before the WC . It got beyond embarassment.

why should reputation matter? team which plays better on that day wins the match. Japan & korea have done same thing in hockey was as well.
