Chinese claimed "civilian" craft deviated by big margin as no one was onboard for steering and it has very limited control. So civilian that it always ended up following Indian defence installations both over Islands and mainland including LAC.

I don't deny that it is clearly a calculated move and not just "civilian balloons gone astray" but I feel it is being blown out of proportion. I doubt the balloons have a lot of tactical value, I think their whole purpose is just inflammatory. Something the Chinese can do for cheap to test response times and perhaps gather some meteorological data. The fact that these balloons are garnering public attention and causing such a lopsided expensive response is a huge added bonus.

To the best of my understanding and from literature read earlier, meteorological data gathering balloons fly on upwards trajectory, but not in the case of these fleet of Chinese balloons. These electronic carriers ( yes it's identified already and will make into public domain at the earliest) maintain a stable trajectory well above the clouds and other activities, so they're definitely not for weather observation, not certainly when almost everytime they pass over different country's defense installations.
It's not the thing that people started observing such crafts but Chinese are pissed off that it was tracked back to Chinese mainland, thus implicating it to rest of such similar crafts sighted over multiple continents including but not limited to South & north america, Asia, Africa.
