Talk by APVS Prasad of ADE on "Challenges in Design and Development of MALE UAV TAPAS - 201"

  • Its a 2-3 ton UAV
  • 1,800kg -> 2,800kg, inital design -> first prototype
    dude.png
  • Want to reduce the weight by 280 kgs.
  • Single engine twin boom design was optimal
    oie_2664310PCjmIDp7.jpg
  • Uses GAGAN semi-auto take off and landing (ATOL)
  • Full ATOL in development
  • One variant cannot meet all service requirements.
  • Single engine twin-boom configuration in future.

Talk by Gargi Meharu of HAL on "Conceptual Design of Amphibious Aircraft"

HAL's ambitious amphibian design (SAGAR) specs:
1. 15 tons payload
2. Range 4000 kms
3. Loiter time: 1.5 hours
4. Service ceiling: 9 km
5. Gross weight: 47 Tons
6. Twin turbofan: 133 kN each
7. 100 passengers
8. fuselage length: 32 mtrs
9. T Tail

Talk by P Mahuli of CEMILAC on "Concurrent Certification in the Design & Development of HTT 40 Basic Trainer Aircraft"

  • P&W was the first choice of engine which they declined. (Pilatus ?)
  • It just took 11 months to detailed design to first prototype
  • HTT-40 did 38+ test flights
  • DM reviewed the project 8 times in 11 months before first flight. His support was crucial.
  • Reused LRUs from LCA,HTT-36 and ALH

Talk by Wg Cdr MA Dubey of IAF on "Indigenisation: Challenges & Way Ahead for Indian Air Force"

Talk by Gp Capt PK Anand of IAF on "Indigenous Product Development: Make in India"

  • Marut was a success but we failed to follow up on it.
  • DPSUs become comfortable with licence manufacturing.
  • There is a separate department for Indigenisation in IAF MC
  • MSMEs are participating while big companies are reluctant.
  • 45000+ spears are Indigenised with the help of MSMEs
  • More than 90% of the routine spears are now indian for IAF MC
  • Focus is now on high tech items.
  • Most of the Indigenisation done by IAF MC is reverse engineering.
  • New IDDM is a step forward for Make in india
  • IAF is building up in house R&D capabilities. (At least for realistic ASR

Talk by P Radhakrishna of LRDE on "Development of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar for Fighter Aircraft - An Indian Scenario"

  • UTTAM AESA for LCA is ready !
    partay.gif
(hardware and software qualified), flight testing is what left.
  • Waiting for LCA PV1 modifications.
  • For a AESA radar 50% is software.
  • Its fully indian, power amplifier was denied. So, we made a better one.

    (Thanks to Astra microwave )
  • Liquid cooling system.
  • BEL and Astra microwave are major partners.
  • 4 T/R module in one. 4000 QTRM already produced.
  • This QTRM will be used on 2-3 more ground based "Strategic programs".
Looks like LCA will get AESA before eurofighter

Talk by Manoj R of DRDLon "Testing of Hydro Carbon Fuelled SCRAMJET Combustor" during Aero India Seminar 2017 on 14 Feb 17 at Hall A of Royal Orchid Convention Centre, Bangalore.

  • Will test 20 sec HSTD SCRAMJET this year.
  • Aim of this project to demonstrate autonomous flight of scramjet vehicle.
  • Altitude - 13 km

Where can we see this videos

Found a good discussion/presentation on Electro optics & photonics , by one of ISRO scientist, later discussion session was joined by someone from LRDE too. Hope they are working on photonics & radar related application @Rajput Lion

Great find @marich01 (y)

Now I am calling out all those people who labelled me "Resident Optimist 2", lol.

In all seriousness though, what our scientists are doing is absolutely amazing. Just hope that soon we make a breakthrough in Photonics just like we have made in GaN.
