doesn't have a dedicated sniper program or school similar to other major militaries. The best of marksmen are given snipers and trained in basic sniping. That's something we need to look into prior to figuring out the procurement rifles/calibers
I know we don't have one right now. If we get Ione in the future. I hope our sniper program focuses on getting more different calibers and tactics..
SSSD's rifles have been designed by LMT's consultants, so I'd expect they'd stand a decent chance in IA's trials. Also, why'd they require large scale production capabilities when IA's requirement is <10k rifles.

For instance, Victrix's rep in the above video says the company only produces 5k rifles per year and anything beyond that compromises quality. This is the same among other major sniper companies
Would be interesting if the Russians come with lobaev though I doubt they will field them for the tender. The lobaev sniper rifle might be the best rifle in the market even better than the sako.

Its a crying shame that they don't get a chance.

Yep. Their designs seem to be good. But do they have a facility to manufacture all this equipment? In a large scale, at that.

We are one of the largest producers of all kinds of fabric. All the MoD has to do is say that they like this design and would like to buy it. The company would have a beeline of fabric producers willing to license produce those vests. It can be like the PPE manufacturing story, once design is there manufacturing can scale up massively.

Design is the problem not manufacturing. They can outsource that.

Yep PPE is so abundant nowadays..
There is no buyer..

From ₹ 550 for a semi PPE in the initial days to ₹ 150 for overall PPE.
All within 6 months.

In fact there is 100x hospital conversion to treat Covid has also happening now.

The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is soon to offer its indigenously developed large-calibre sniper anti-material rifle (AMR) to the Indian Army for trials after having incorporated modifications as per the latter’s requirement. The large calibre AMR, named ‘Vidwanshak’ is a 100 per cent indigenous weapon by OFB, launched during the ‘Atmanirbhar Week’.

Sources in the Kolkata based defence manufacturer- OFB, confirmed to The Statesman that some orders were received for the rifle from state police organisations and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). The BSF and the CRPF are the existing users of the weapon.

“Vidwanshak is a multi-calibre sniper rifle chambered for two types of calibres- 14.5mm and 20mm. It can be used in anti-material role for destroying enemy bunkers, lightly armoured vehicles, radar systems, communication equipment, parked aircraft, fuel storage facilities etc” explained the source who added, it is a “single shot, bolt-action rifle having a detachable three round magazine and a range of 1800m for 14.5mm calibre ammunition and 1300m for the 20mm calibre. The advantage is, the rifle can quickly be dismantled and carried in two portable man-packs, each weighing 12 to 15 kgs.”

The Indian Army earlier imported such 14.5mm/20mm anti-material sniper rifles from the South African company, Denel Land Systems.

To boost the Atmanirbhar policy, OFB developed the AMR through its in-house R&D wing of Ordnance Factory (OF), Trichy without any MoU with foreign collaborators and support from external agencies, factory sources confirmed.

Due to this indigenisation, foreign exchange to the tune of USD 90 million will be saved, it said.

However, the Army reportedly had earlier desisted from procuring the Vidwanshak rifle due to its heavy-weight which affected portability. OFB sources highlighted “the weight of the weapon is comparatively lesser than the South African made AMR which were used by the Army. This weapon also has advanced optical telescoping sights. We have completed modifications on the rifle as per the Army requirement and will offer it for trials soon.”

The JVPC is not needed by the army. Army made the right choice and went for 5.56 NATO CQB rifles. IMO Car 816 with the 10.5" barrel is the best choice, all things considered. IWI Arad with 11.5" barrel would be better, but is it both expensive and not on offer so far.

For what? The Car-816 or any other carbine in 5.56 NATO can do what this thing does just as well and then some...
Looks pretty decent for a chinese toy gun. Caliber is good, fire rate is higher than mp 7. And a huge upgrade over the sterling.
The real upgrade would be the 5.56 NATO carbine. And rate of fire doesn't matter that much as it will be on semi auto for the most part.

Replace or complement the mp 9's. Just a little bigger more range higher penetration. Though the mp9's are used in suppressed role with much heavier 9mm grain for better penetration. It could also Go to para sf,garud too. We do have a raita of weapons one more wouldn't hurt. We already have amogh with the coast guard in the same caliber..
