Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

Does the MK have weapons or is it clean? F-35's "disclosed official" combat radius/range numbers are done with internal weapons including its top speed unlike 4th gen fighters.

With A2A loads, the MK's combat radius is 1300+Km. With A2G loads, it's 1000+Km. The F-35A's maximum combat radius is said to be about 1100Km with its internal load.

IZUMO & QE F-35B Ops Gen David H Berger USMC Commandant Aug 2021

When Nippon's Izumo's Class "destroyers" finally sail with their 20-25 F-35Bs their Navy will dominate the region. chicom carriers won't cut it against Izumo strike group.

Says who? Got a source to back up your claim?

That's how manufacturers advertise.

Combat radius (internal fuel) 1093 km

The same for the MK is 1500Km in A2A config. It's 1600+Km for MKK. 1800Km for Su-35S. This is simply max range on internal fuel divided by 2, the same as the F-35's combat radius you've posted.

No no no. You got a source to back up this claim....
That's the absolute maximum figure, to bingo fuel. It doesn't cover combat, supersonic dash, reserve etc.

1093km/680nm combat radius of F-35 is with two 2,000lb bombs and two aim-120s.

Now what I want to see is sources of the Flankers COMBAT RADIUS with AA and AG weapons load not max range.
As usual contributing with nothing but childish memes. You're the type of poster when you got no comeback you resort to this.

Now here's the reality.... Rafail, Flankers and every 4th gen fighters maximum COMBAT RADIUS numbers are done at high altitude but the reality is these fighters are not going to fly at these altitudes against targets defended with IADS or modern enemy fighters with AEW&C backing them up but take a guess which two fighters will be able to fly at high altitude all the way in the AO? F-22 and F-35.

Yes people Rafail and Mk's will have to fly low to hide from radar for as long as possible drastically cutting its maximum combat radius. Their defending escorts will also have to fly low with them. What a pickle these 4th gen fighters are caught in, eh?

You just forget that the Rafale does not need an escort, that in a real mission there is a transit phase which is long and a penetration phase which is shorter, that the Rafale can increase its range with drop tanks and that in any case it is a machine that can carry more, further, than an F-35. All that is needed is to know how to use it, which is not within the reach of the American fan boys.

Wrong!

Rafail's disclosed combat radius range, like the F-16, F15, Typhoon and F-18 already include droptanks which makes them very draggy flying bricks that light up search and track radars from far away. A fighters combat radius numbers, like their top speed numbers, are done at optimum altitude not low penetration altitude.

What matters for comparisons is the fuel fraction which is calculated without drop tank. All other figures are biased for all aircraft.

“When folks talk about 4th and 5th gen fighters, it’s important to zero out the ambiguity of exactly ‘what’ they are referring to,” Kelly said. “Are we talking signature, avionics, sensors/sensor fusion, and weapons? Because there is absolutely zero doubt that 4th gen aircraft equipped with 5th gen sensors, avionics, and weapons bring disruptive and decisive effects to a peer fight.”
