Leopard 2A6 vs T-90M

Leopard 2 is a typical Western design. It is relatively large, with significant attention given to crew safety and comfort.

T-90M is a Russian design based on the T-72 model. This has some advantages, particularly the low silhouette and small turret which makes the tank better able to utilize hull-down defensive position.

However, T-90s small size also resulted in the tank being cramped. By comparison, Leopard 2 has far better ergonomics and crew comfort, thus making it more efficient in prolonged engagements.

What's your take on T-90M vs Leopard 2A6 and other western tanks in a one on one comparo?

The T-90M has similar firepower, perhaps similar armor with ERA, but less mobility. And it most definitely isn't as maintenance friendly as the Leo. It has inferior gun elevation. Crew protection is slightly improved but the turret's gonna fly if the lower hull is penetrated. We recently saw a video of that in Ukraine with an ATGM side hit on the hull. If the driver had better training, the tank would have survived.

Honestly doesn't matter. Leopard 2a6 might have better survivability but they are as vulnerable as the t-90's and also have inferior firepower considering a t-72b3 most likely took out a leopard with a refleks 9m119 equivalent atgm. Cannon guided munitions seem to be far more important than standard ammo. Nato tanks don't have cannon guided munitions except for the k-2 black panther and Israeli lahat. So basically most western tanks are useless from our point of view.
I personally think Arjun might have better survivability in the same environment compared to leopards seeing how mediocre their performance has been.
Cannon guided atgms like SAMHO are the future of tank warfare so will be cannon launched drones.
It's pretty clear that anything can pen 500 mm of rha can take out both western and eastern tanks.
French doctrine of high mobility low armour warfare might be the future. Frenchies are ahead of the curve.

The 2A6 is well over a decade old, so the T-90M somewhat matching it today isn't a big deal. Future battlefields will require better tanks than either.

Lots of 2A8s coming in soon.
