Was always the case here. Myself & a few other members highlighted that given the delay in inducting more Rafales around last year same time it made little sense to do so as the upcoming Mk-2 & AMCA Mk-1 would fill in the void. Hence it's best to get 2-3 squadrons off the shelf & close the matter.
However God & GoI work in mysterious ways. More true of GoI than God & here we are. Instead of the Mk-2 & the AMCA Mk-1 shutting down the Rafale MII we're now looking at the Rafales shutting both these down.
Ok , that was an exaggeration. However I won't be surprised to see HAL being run down upon by IAF every opportunity it gets on the Mk-2 program & all talks of us inducting 200 nos Mk-2 will be just that.
IAF will induct 100 odd Mk-2 & the production line will be shut. Why ? Because no money since the bulk will go into procurement of the Rafales. This is precisely what the amateur defence community on X was warning about.

Let me tell you a story : He is at best a place holder in the larger scheme of things.
The IAF as an org is ideologically aligned with inducting the Rafale.Large parts of its operational doctrine and CAPEX is aligned with the induction of this “game changer”
The elite Vajra cult spent a whopping $2.2Bn on upgrading the Mirage-2000 H/TH to I/TI standard. So much so that the Su-30MKI mid life upgrades were completely put on the back burner.
These shenanigans got exposed when the SU-30MKIs were found wanting in BVR engagements against a principal adversary.The Flanker is at best a Bhishma Pitamah in the larger scheme of things.
The Tejas Mk1 and Mk1A isn’t their blue eyed boy. It is just a promising kid who got admitted on an EWS quota.The boy will be allowed to rise but not too much as it doesn’t belong to the elite clan.
The leadership will hem and haw and make all the right noises but not commit wholeheartedly to the program.This is a class war where the loyal knights will sacrifice themselves to protect the crown prince from the peasants.
As far as the AMCA goes , it was chai biskoot time pass until the PAF started making the right noises about inducting the J-35s.
That shook Vayu Bhawan out of its slumber and suddenly the AMCA was too late and too slow despite the org being fully aware that the CCS approval was allowed to drag for a good 3-4 years.
Suddenly it was no more Chai Biskoot , 5th Gen required a quick fix solution and what could sound more politically correct and visually pleasing than the F-35.
The F-35 might or might not make it but you get the drift.The IAF’s Plan B remains the Rafale and it will use “साम, दाम, भेद “ to induct it.The Tejas Mk2 attaining primacy is a nightmare which makes the cult wake up drenched in sweat.
The Tejas is a compromise candidate which was inducted because the defence minister of the day understood the organisational politics and cracked the whip.
The commoner “Mk2” can never be allowed to be the crown prince.That would be sacrilege of the highest order.Long live the Cult !

Sooner or later, the IAF will have to make do with an IC that churns out products Made in India. The gripe is whether that SCO will be owned completely by Indian orgs. or not. Not introducing a FAL sooner and expanding the Aero-sector in the early 2000s was a big mistake. Rather disappointing that progress has been slow for the sector even under present admin. As I have stated before, monopolies, state owned or otherwise, are not healthy for any commercial sector irrespective of whether it is related to NatSec or not. GoI should have ramped up efforts to get a JV done for Mk-2 just like it later did for AMCA. The FA could have stayed relevant for a while. I do not buy into the whole irrelevant FA argument.
Another AM Kapoor (Retd) has made some mistakes when giving his opinions earlier like saying Rafale F5 is coming in 2027 and will be on offer to India. Stopped listening to his takes as well as bunch of others a while ago. I had posted his gaffes in another thread. The Rafale is a good 4.5 gen FA. However, sometimes the way it is presented by certain outlets and individuals is...frankly overhyped.
Just my 2 cents on the issue.
