Israel, US Strike Iran After Weeks Of Warning, Explosions Heard In Tehran

This was the first missile launched by them in support of Iran as part of this war.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel. Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a military spokesman for the Houthis, issued a statement on Saturday on the rebel group’s Al-Masirah satellite television network. Israel’s military had earlier said it had intercepted a missile.

New footage of Iranian missile strikes on Tel Aviv. The video, filmed by Tel Aviv residents, appears to show the release of cluster munitions from an Iranian missile.

Spoke with Crown Prince and PM of Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the ongoing conflict in West Asia. I reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure. We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure.Thanked him for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.

I would say it's not much for a country with almost a trillion dollar annual budget. There bottleneck comes from dependency built on china for parts that goes unaware in most defense reports. Insanely high Cost of shifting whole supply chain to USA or If attempting to shift to other friendly countries..then the time it will take for the said country's policy, supply chain etc to mature.

Their bottleneck is not number of aircraft, systems or the money. With the "talks and extension" and other stuff.. if US wants.. it can deploy some serious firepower and systems in ME. All it depends now on wether Trump believes it's worth it.

I like the way GOI is managing this whole affair. Despite all kinds of attempt to build pressure and make them falter... GOI has decided on a path adhering to multi-alignment and sticking to it.

I suppose that's the difference between Non-Alignment and Multi-alignment.
In Non-Alignment, both party may chastise you for sitting it out but that's the extent of it. You become a bystander.

In Multi-alignment, both warring parties treat you carefully too.. while they accuse you of supporting the other side through "free media and narratives", they also thank you for showing support for their concerns officially. But it does, however little, gives gives you a skin in the game and a seat at the table ( observer status) .😂

Islamabad has also drawn closer to Tehran in recent months, despite an exchange of cross-border strikes in January 2024 that both sides said targeted militant groups.

Pakistani intelligence and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards have co-operated to crack down on smuggling and Baloch separatists along their 900km border, and Munir and Sharif visited Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran last May.

Munir’s military also has strong links with Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, with which Pakistan signed a mutual defence agreement last year.

That pact — which according to statements from Riyadh and Islamabad defines an act of aggression against one signatory as an attack on the other — has now become a source of concern for Islamabad, which fears being drawn into the conflict alongside Saudi Arabia. Late on Friday, an Iranian missile and drone attack struck the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, injuring 12 US troops.

“The Saudi pact is becoming a problem for us,” said one person in Pakistan familiar with the thinking of Pakistan’s senior military leaders. “It was supposed to be cash for deterrence. But we’ve not gotten any new Saudi investments, and deterrence failed.”

Pakistan is home to 40mn Shia Muslims, the world’s second-largest population, many of whom admire the Shia-led Islamic republic. Israel’s assassination of Khamenei at the outset of the war sparked unrest throughout Pakistan that left more than two dozen dead.

“The problem for Islamabad is not simply geo-sectarian, but also rampant anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiments in the country that has created popular sympathy for Iran during the conflict,” said Kamran Bokhari, senior resident fellow with the Middle East Policy Council in Washington.

“The Pakistanis got involved in diplomacy so that they can avoid getting dragged into the fighting.”

Meanwhile, the country is contending with energy shortages — almost all of Pakistan’s oil and gas imports run through the Gulf — a deepening cost-of-living crisis and a ballooning import bill.

But Islamabad’s efforts to take a public role have earned plaudits from the urban elite, helping Munir and the government shore up support from a key constituency amid economic weakness and security instability.

“You have a military dictator and a ruling elite, trying to punch above their weight in geopolitics, as an escape from the reality of failing governance, security and economic conditions in Pakistan,” said Hussain Nadim, a former policy adviser to a previous Pakistani government and author of a book on US-Pakistan relations.

Trump’s endorsement “is another validation from the Americans, to prove the masses at home that there is no point fighting against us”.

Interesting times for the PA and the ruling class of PAK.
