Problem is none of the Agni series (except perhaps Agni Prime which is still in dev) can be given a conventional role. It would make differentiation difficult for adversaries and possibly lead to a miscalculation.

Pak tried to play on this exact scenario (wrt Brahmos) during Op Sindoor.

It'd have to be all new BMs like Pralay, BM-04 et all.

The silver lining is the growing expertise and production capacity of pvt cos like Solar which could supplement BDL to quickly scale the inventory, should the need arise.

Says who ? We bought this chooran wholesale & didn't induct the Pralay IIRC coz of fears Paxtan would mistake a BM going their way as a N tipped one & retaliate prematurely.

It took news of the Cold Start & Paxtan's reaction to it emphatically stating they'd resort to usage of Tactical nukes for us to change our minds. Even then it took more than a decade & Doklam followed by Galwan for us to get off our collective a r s e s & do something about if.

Just to remind you we've a NFU. Brahmos is dual use. The entire world is aware of this fact except us amateur defence experts . We struck Paxtan with Brahmos . What was their response like ?

Besides China's an NFU too . They've used this nicely to deploy their SRBMs / IRBMs in dual roles capacities. What's preventing us from reciprocating ? Or do we need to be subject to what Iran's facing before we wake up ?

Our systemic pusillanimity is only matched by its own myopia apathy indecision & ineptitude which has brought us to this day.

Pralay was always meant to be conventional only. Imo, this change in strategy has come about only because of our airpower asymmetry vs China. Every nook and corner of Pak is otherwise well within IAF reach.

GoI decision makers have historically been against the use of BMs for conventional strikes because they thought they were too expensive for that as single use weapons.

Brahmos is dual use? Since when? Afaik, all we have are gravity bombs + a short range ASM euphemistically called Air Launched Article for N delivery. Pak's messaging was meant to stoke peaceniks within foriegn govts and media.

Imvho, this could be part of CBMs negotiated between the two govts, just as there is a moratorium on the use of firearms along the border areas.

Completely different circumstances. Using a nuke on Natanz is to stop a nuclear weapons program only, and it's necessary because it's too deep to reach with conventional weapons. The area is unpopulated aside from site staff. It is not a war to oust a democratically elected government.

The Iranian government killed 30,000 civilians, the nuke would only kill 800 and it stops the same regime getting nuclear weapons.

I also believe there is a very high possibility of mating N device with the missile so that Iran surrenders. If not today, tomorrow they will have the nuclear device. Israel is also adamant now to finish off with Iran.

The Iranians have some novel SAMs including loitering subsonic ones that have taken down dozens of MQ-9s and now Hermes 900s as well.
