New Delhi, July 08: The National Investigation Agency has been busy with a plethora of cases relating to the Islamic State. In the past couple of years, it has been busy especially in South India, where it has come across several feeder outfits of the ISIS.

The NIA has found a similar pattern behind the operation of the ISIS in Sri Lanka and South India. In both cases it was found that the ISIS was allying with local radical outfits to further its cause.

A mammoth meeting held in 2016 at Tiruchy in Tamil Nadu by an Islamic group came under the scanner of the ISIS. This meeting which was attended in large numbers was aimed at undertaking a massive radicalisation drive. It was part of the Anti-Shirk propaganda, officials informed OneIndia.

This is very similar to what one witnessed in Sri Lanka as well. The National Towheed Jamat, which partnered with the ISIS to carry out the easter bombings too had conducted Anti Shirk meetings.

The basic idea is to tell the people that praying to another God other than Allah is a sin. IB officials say that such meetings were initially held on a small scale. However the meetings only got bigger over the years and several such incidents were overlooked despite several warnings.

In Tamil Nadu, such meetings started out in 2015. These meetings were held in Coimbatore and Madurai. However an Islamic organisation managed to arrange one such meeting on a very large scale at Tiruchy on January 31 2016.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that the Anti-Shirk propaganda is gaining traction in states such as Tamil Nadu and Kerala. This has been done on a very large scale to help ISIS propagate its ideology.

Wikipedia says, " in Islam, shirk (Arabic) is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e., the deification or worship of anyone or anything besides the singular God, i.e., Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of partners placed beside God. It is the vice that is opposed to the virtue of Tawhid (monotheism).

Those who practice shirk are termed mushrikun. Mushrikun are those who practice shirk, which literally means "association" and refers to accepting other gods and divinities alongside the god of the Muslims - Allah (as God's "associates"). In Islamic law shirk is a crime and can only be attributed to Muslims, since only a Muslim is legally responsible for avoiding association of any partner with Allah.

An official with the NIA says that such meetings set the pace for the rise of the ISIS ideology in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Officials say that in Kerala and TN, several youth have taken it upon themselves to propagate for the ISIS. Several Muslim youth in Kerala got together and started an outfit called the Ansar-ul-Khilafa KL. This was the feeder outfit for the ISIS and its job was to identify people and send them to the ISIS.

The group was active on social media platforms. The National Investigation Agency had arrested several members of this group after it was found that they had held a conspiracy at Kanakamala in Kannur district of Kerala.

The NIA said that it had also arrested another persons called Subhahani Haha Moideen, who had travelled to Iraq in 2015 and fought alongside the Islamic State. After his return to India, Haja had continued with his activities in furthering the cause of the ISIS in Kerala.

The PFI has often been accused of associating with the banned Students Islamic Movement of India. Most of the office bearers of the PFI have been associated with the SIMI in the past. They have held positions in the SIMI before it had been banned.

The Intelligence Bureau has said that the PFI is violent in nature. They one point agenda is to attack the Right Wing. They preach to their cadres that attacking those who oppose Islam would earn them religious rewards. the PFI has been accused of chopping off a professor's hand who had allegedly hurt religious sentiments in Kerala.

BSF should've plied them with tea and clicked few selfies to post on Instagram too. Then escorted them to the Indo Bangladesh border.
A few years back BSF would just shoot them dead. But that worsened relations. Bangledeshis, as expected, did nothing to stop the smuggling. When we acted they complained that we were killing their people. So BSF were ordered not to shoot until fired upon.

Nonsensical as it may sound it was necessary to create a conducive environment for the Indo-Bangla enclave exchange. Once the dusts settled we are back to the same old problem.

In a well ‘synergised operation’ in Manipur’s Noney district, the Indian army has arrested an NSCN (IM) cadre and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, warlike stores and other incriminating documents. Brigadier Ravroop Singh of the 57 Mountain Division said the operation by army commenced on the night of July 5 and search started from the next morning at Kekru Naga village in Noney district following report of presence of some armed cadres belonging to NSCN (IM).

Sensing the security forces, the armed cadres(of the outfit) fled the area after hiding their weapons and warlike stores at multiple locations in the periphery of village, nearby jungle and the Jhum huts, he said.

One armed cadre of NSCN (IM) SS Private Thailik Panmei was apprehended while four rifles, two grenade launchers and large quantities of ammunition and other warlike stores besides incriminating documents, diaries and other administrative stores of NSCN (IM) during the operation which was concluded on July 9.

“This operation and the recovery of huge arms, ammunition and warlike stores have yet again exposed the duplicity of NSCN (IM),” the officer claimed. “The Cease Fire Ground Rules lay down the basic framework under which both Government agencies and NSCN (IM) are required to operate, however, NSCN (IM) has continuously been violating the laid down Ground Rules.”

Singh said that the attempts for setting up of new camps, fresh recruitments, extortion and tax collection specifically along NH-2 and NH-37 impacting infrastructure projects like railway lines, road construction etc are all indicative “to undermine the peace process”.

The security forces, Singh said, are aware of these tactics and would continue to carry out relentless operations to provide security to the local population.

The Army Commander, Lieutenant General MM Naravane, has complimented all troops of Spear Corps for executing such a surgical and professional operation, he said. The NSCN(IM) is yet to react to the army version at the time of publishing this report.

India Pursuing Extradition Request Of Zakir Naik With Malaysia: Centre

India continues to pursue its request for extradition of Zakir Naik and it has been informed by the Malaysian government that its appeal is under consultation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Thursday. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India is pursuing the matter not only through the Malaysian government but also through its High Commission.

“We have requested for his extradition and time and again not only through our consultation with the Malaysian government but also through our High Commission. We have asked them to expedite the process. We have been told that it is under consultation and it is a process that will take time,” he said in response to a question.

Naik, a 53-year-old radical television preacher, left India in 2016 and subsequently moved to Malaysia, which has reportedly granted permanent residency to him.

Asserting that Malaysia has a right to not extradite Naik, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad was quoted as saying by ”The Star” newspaper on Monday that “Zakir in general feels that he is not going to get a fair trial (in India).”

The Malaysian leader also compared the situation to Australia refusing to extradite former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar, who was sentenced to death in Malaysia in 2015 for killing a Mongolian model.

Naik was charged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in 2016 based on a National Investigation Agency FIR that was registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The ED last month said Naik received funds worth crores of rupees in his and his trusts’ bank accounts from unidentified “well wishers” over the years for his speeches that spread “hatred and incited Muslim youths” to take up terrorism.

While answering a question on decision on judgement of retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, Mr Kumar said a representative from the MEA will be there when the verdict is announced.

“We have to wait for judgement…a representative from MEA will be there when the verdict is announced,” he said, adding India had submitted a statement on September 13, 2017 with details about its arguments on the entire process.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is expected to pronounce its verdict on July 17 in the case relating to Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is on death row in Pakistan, official sources said on Thursday.

Kulbhushan Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India approached the ICJ in May 2017 against Pakistan for denying consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav. India had also challenged the “farcical” trial by the military court of Pakistan against the 48-year-old. The ICJ had on May 18, 2017 restrained Pakistan from executing Jadhav till the adjudication of the case.

GUWAHATI: Two Rohingyas, who sneaked into India ostensibly in search of jobs, were arrested in Tripura.

Md. Salim (21) and Jahangir Alam (20) were arrested from West Tripura district on Monday. The arrest was made after the locals had informed the police about the suspicious movement of two individuals. The police recovered refugee cards from the duo’s possession.

The police said the accused persons admitted to have spent time at a Rohingya refugee camp in Chittagong area of Bangladesh. Over the past few months, several Rohingyas were arrested in the Northeast, mostly in Tripura.

The refugees often use the Tripura corridor of the international border to sneak into India. Given the illegal influx, the Centre had earlier sent an advisory to the BSF and the states in the Northeast to be on a high alert.

Two years ago, hundreds and thousands of Rohingya Muslims had fled their homes in Myanmar in the wake of an alleged crackdown against them by the military in the country.

New Delhi: In a sensational twist, the probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the ISIS terror module in Tamil Nadu has revealed the terror sleeper cell’s links with the banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India(SIMI).

The probe agency conducted raids at various locations after 14 people were deported from the UAE on Monday for allegedly raising funds to establish an Islamic State (ISIS) unit in India.

The NIA also questioned the prime accused in the case, identified as one Syed Bukhari, who is believed to be a former cadre of SIMI and is the president of an outfit called Wahadat-e-Islam, which is supposedly an offshoot of the banned outfit SIMI. Bukhari was currently in Kochi for further questioning.

As per sources, Wahadat-e-Islam-which has links to SIMI-was registered as a "social organisation" from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh in 2006. The president of the organisation, Syed Bhukari is a businessman. The organisation has held several meetings across Tamil Nadu.

Ever since it was established in Tamil Nadu, the group had been under the radar of intelligence agencies. However, the outfit has denied having any connection with SIMI, with its leaders claiming that it was only a religious and social organisation.

Interestingly, during an earlier raid conducted in Coimbatore, during which the NIA had busted the ISIS module, the probe agency had nabbed one Mohammed Azarudeen who was allegedly friends with the Sri Lanka Easter Sunday attack mastermind Zahran Hashim on Facebook. Reportedly, Azarudeen had apparently organised a few meetings for Wahadat-e-Islam in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, last week, the NIA filed its final charge sheet in December 2007 Wagamon SIMI arms training camp case, in which two men Wasiq Billa and Alam Jeb Afridi were accused of sedition and other offences. Both the accused are presently absconding.

A statement by the NIA said, "In the case, the first charge sheet was filed by the NIA before the NIA Special Court, Ernakulam on January 13, 2011, against 30 accused and a supplementary charge sheet was filed subsequently against six accused u/s 120-B, 122, 124A, 153A IPC, sections 3,5,10 and 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 and sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act on July 29, 2013.”

The case pertained to a complaint about a purported secret training camp that was organised allegedly by SIMI at Thangalpara, Wagamon during December 2007.

Meanwhile, in February this year, the government banned SIMI for another five years as it continued to be involved in "subversive activities."

“If the unlawful activities of SIMI are not curbed and controlled immediately, it will continue its subversive activities, re-organize its activists, who are still absconding, and disrupt the secular fabric of the country by propagating anti-national sentiments and escalating secessionism," a notification by the Home Ministry said.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday issued notice to TikTok and Helo app operators seeking response from them over concerns that people were using these apps to commit anti-Indian and unlawful activities.

A list of questions have been sent to both app operators by the Cyber Laws and e-Security wing of MeitY and the Ministry has also warned TikTok and Helo and if they will fail to submit appropriate response then the government may have to ban them or take action against them as per the relevant provisions of the IT Act and other laws.

The Ministry has sent the notice with a questionnaire covering several issues including unauthorized data sharing by the apps, the apps turning into a hub for anti-national activities and Helo App has apparently paid a large amount of money for putting several morphed political ads on other social media platforms.

The ministry has raised red flags over these concerns and has said in tis notice that "the concerns raised are serious in nature and needs a detailed explanation" from the app platforms. The ministry has stated in the letter that "a detailed list of questions is enclosed herewith. You are hereby called upon to submit your response to the questions on or before 22nd July, 2019, failing which government may take necessary action to ban these apps."

Meanwhile, TikTok and Helo have responded to the government and said, "We are grateful for the immense support given to us by India’s growing digital community. India is one of our strongest markets and we are happy to be part of the mainframe of Digital India in 15 Indian languages. In line with our commitment to India, we are investing $1 billion dollars in India over the next three years, with a strategic focus on developing technology infrastructure, establishing local partnerships and supporting initiatives such as the Skill India Program which we are proud to be assisting with already. Our continued success in India will not be possible without the support of our local community. We take our responsibilities to this community seriously and welcome this opportunity to fully collaborate with the Government to meet and exceed our obligations."

TikTok and Helo have been asked by the government to submit their response to the questions on or before July 22, 2019, failing which action will be taken by the government to ban these apps.

The notice has been issued by the Ministry comes after it had received complaints from some agencies and a letter written to the prime minister by Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM). In the letter, the co-convener of SJM, Ashwani Mahajan, had urged PM Modi to ban TikTok and Helo, claiming that the two Chinese applications had become a hub for "anti-national" content.
