Its a repeat order. Only some minor changes will be added.

That is a waste of time and money to fulfill outdated and not-so-urgent requirement.

Even people arguing for repeat order will agree to it. @Parthu ?

MT30 electric propulsion and CAROBAR/EMALS are a must for a ship that is supposed to protect the interests of a $10 trillion economy.

Navy choosing it means they have definite intel on chinese cbg fronting in IOR situation, hence they also talked about this before. Repeat order is the quickest route. besides, catober emals research is not complete. Will take 10+ years easy.

If they had any "intelligence", they would have chosen an actual battle-ready carrier instead of a power projection showpiece. This ship comes to life a decade after it was ordered, so it is even more important for it to be capable enough.

This navy has an unhealthy fascination with carriers. They are only interested in fulfilling the number of carriers, not their actual operational capability.

Prioritize sea denial and fast-track the SSN program.

12 SSNs with 4-8 vertical missile tubes & 18 modern AIP equipped SSK (soryu class type and size) submarines are better option than 1 carrier as it will bring fear into any advancing Chinese aircraft carrier's captain that it can be sinked by Indian submarines....

SMART system deployed in large numbers on the coastline can be a good deterrent against Chinese subs. Depends on IN strategy against PLAN. Good strike capability would complement USN presence in SCS. The Chinese will try corner us sooner than later. Not a bad idea to have a good form of offence. Agree about air wing deficiency.

Fascinating!! In just 25B and 15 years ...Surely Navy would be delighted to have this armada if they are already not pushing it theu could take a clue from this.

Meantime, I pray for this 500m per year for 10 years 2nd flattop...something whose steel cutting can actually happen in 1 to years and give is a good edge.

Other them the move function the protect and fight function will definitively receive best available tech.

I really hope its CATOBAR or at-least can be upgraded like they did with queen Elizabeth class (Add an additional deck for equipment).
Vikrant Mk1A. To be followed by Vikrant Mk2. Then we will have nuclear powered, but power will be less, because DEW. Then we will retrofit Mk1 Vikrant with nuclear power. This is the circus that is going to happen.

Willing to bet money on jet blast deflectors and bigger lifts. This would make the most sense given INs penchant for incremental upgrades.
Those are basic requirement not a change worth appreciating.

Then why waste resources here ? Which is my exact point.

I will be telling my grandkids that you wrote this then.
