Im talking about fundamental issues like an international airport. Not possible to build without huge land reclamation.

It can be made attractive to Indian tourists but that's also need long work ahead. Getting a permit to visit that place is like applying visa.


It's not designed to use in the sea.
Don't know the veracity of the claim but timing couldn't be better!
 
By that yard stick, Maldivian tourism shouldn't be ahead of A&N, right? No. Size do matter however government policies, law & order, regulations enforcement, lively environment are some of the key factors which make the difference.
Ys,we should concentrate more on A&N than Lakshadweep when comes to beach tourism.
Also, most of the resorts in Maldives are in ,inhabitated islands. A luxury Lakshadweep cannot claim, because all such non occupied islands of Lakshadweep are too small & fragile ecosystem.

Did Modi talk about the expansion? In fact, his public meeting was held at the airport since that's the biggest space available.

No, It can be increased to abt 7500 feet with least amount of expenditure as the land is available to it. to go to 10000 feet, we will need to reclaim part of the sea. But did we not do it for Maldives already? There is enough space available to create international airport eco system within Agatti island. Its a 7.6 km long island. The present orientation of the runway will need to be altered if we do not want to reclaim the sea.

Smaller the area, more costly and premium the real estate, that's how we can beat back the competitors in tourism. Utilise A&N & east coast and Lakshadweep & West coast as package offer both in premium and regular category. But first and foremost get your house in order when it comes to law & order, infrastructure both civil and private ones.

I only hope it remains classy, unlike Goa.
By now many tour and travel companies plus the hoteliers have been lining up outside ministry of commerce for investing in Lakshadweep. It shouldn't be just about money making but also keeping the area as per standards.

That's what I was saying. All alterations and land reclamations will require a significant investment. It won't be a small amount or environmental impact.

The original idea was to fill up the gap between Kalpitty island and Agatti to increase the runway length. but due to enviornment issues, this was dropped. so now it will be extended towards Kalpitty island by about 300m and further to the north by 1 km on stilts.

In Paro airport Bhutan, they used to land A320 on 1,9 km long strip that too at such a height in that narrow place , I am sure if the cross winds are fine it won't be a huge problem at Agatti.

Primarily consisting of people of Indo-Aryan descent from Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, the Maldives also has an Arab minority. Islam's historical influence shapes its politics, a facet subdued during British protection but resurged post-independence. The thwarting of a Tamil-led takeover in 1988 by swift Indian intervention set the stage for subsequent democratic developments, fostering Islamic political influence.

Economically, the Maldives sustains a $900 million economy, heavily reliant on tourism and export fishing. The nation is now grappling with aggressive Chinese influence, enticing smaller nations with loans, resulting in a debt trap. India contributes significantly to the Maldivian economy, providing 60% of tourism revenue.

Over the last decade, China's strategic inroads in the Indian Ocean have intensified, alarming India. Sri Lanka's loss of the Hambantota port exemplifies the debt trap strategy. Maldives, strategically positioned on the route to Singapore, has become a target for Chinese expansion.

Despite historical cooperation between India and the Maldives, recent political developments have strained relations. President Mohammad Muizzu's anti-India campaign and his pursuit to distance the nation from India have escalated tensions. India, a significant contributor to the Maldives' GDP, has threatened to withdraw aid and tourism business, a move vehemently opposed by the new Maldivian leadership.

India's strategic concerns about Chinese influence in the Indian Ocean underline the complex dynamics at play in the region. The evolving situation in the Maldives poses challenges to India's security interests, and diplomatic efforts are crucial to navigating these complexities. It is unlikely that India will let go its influence over underpopulated islands of Maldives. Certainly, it will make sure that China does not take over becoming a threat to India.

Paro is 6k feet long runway and only A-319 is cleared to land there. Plus the take offs are severly load limited. Agatti is just 4.6k feet.

Paro is now 7.4k feet, they operate A320 neo , ATR42 and A319 as you clearly mentioned.

But is it possible to land A319 on 6k feet strip in Laskhadweep because the winds will be strong?

Yes, I have operated A-320s from Jammu when it used to be just 6k feet long runway. But the problem is how much fuel can u uplift as that will decide the destinations you can fly to directly from Agatti.
 
I was one of the first few pilots from Jet Airways who landed B737-400 on the old 5450feet runway in Mangalore. The real table top runway. I hold Cat-3C rating from JAA and FAA on A-320 series but in India we are only restricted to Cat-3B

Yeah we remember once you told about one of your colleagues going to collide with mountains in the vicinity of Mangalore , I hope i recalled it correctly. This was during that Air India crash in Kerala 2020.
 

It is better to leave this island alone. Too much Islamization has happened. Restrict access to their citizens as much as possible.
