Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

I can not understand why waste a good IIR seeker on a 125kg payload? jam proof etc yes but a tv feed would have worked, maybe they face strong EW interference around the enemy airbases. But if use a seeker make it worthwhile with 250kg class saaw like spice er does.
IIR generally provides better accuracy than EO in dusty battlefield conditions + better suited for top-attack terminal dives on targets like airfield HAS, runways, etc. Despite its size, the warhead on SAAW is reportedly similar to the tandem 2-stage BROACH on the Scalp cm.

HAL is prototyping one which looks similar to the JASSM. Earlier design was more similar to Taurus.
By the way I was thinking that since Pranash/Prahar missiles weren't inducted owing to them being developed for exports and not based on requirements of the Army. Doesn't that make CATS Hunter or the entire CATS programme in general susceptible to the same, i.e. a products built without IAF requirements (coz they're yet to have an official CCA programme).

we need need a revamp to our approval system. How tf are citical systems like the CATS programme not funded when the gov goes about posturing on atmanirbhar bharat. Stupidity.

Mine Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) : DRDO is involved in the design and development of MIGM capable of being triggered by multiple influences viz. acoustic, magnetic, hydrodynamic pressure, electric fields, and seismic vibration. Technical sea trials of the system were conducted in February 2020. During the trials, the advance mode of mine fire logic for target validation and triggering the mine was evaluated by target runs of 3 different ships.

Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) : MIGM is an underwater naval mine equipped with precision sensors for triggering the mine based on multiple influences such as magnetic, electrical, acoustic, pressure and Extra Low Frequency Emissions (ELFE). MIGM is deployable from ships and submarines. Acoustic Counter Countermeasure (ACCM) features are inbuilt in the logic to discriminate between ship and hammer/ sweep. Advanced target classifier store signature of friendly ships has been incorporated in the mine to prevent firing against the set of friendly ships as and when detected.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy have successfully undertaken combat firing (with reduced explosive) of the indigenously designed and developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). The system is an advanced underwater naval mine developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories - High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh.

MIGM is designed to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad are the production partners for the system.

Complimenting DRDO, Indian Navy and the Industry, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh stated that the system will further enhance undersea warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat said, with this validation trial, the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.

I couldn't find any news related to the type of ATGM that the Indian Army ordered, I was expecting a NAG 2 order, but I got a report regarding the Invar missile for the T90.

Isn't that that a Gun launched ATGM? Why are they going for that instead of NAG 2?

NAG is a tank-launched missile system; if we want a similar type of tank-barrel-launched missile system, we have to go with the SAMHO missile, which is not fully certified.
Invar is also tank launched though. It is launched through Gun barrel of a tank. It is also laser guided instead of using a seeker irrc.

SAMHO/CLGM has completely gone off the radar, no?

The missile was supposed to equip the Arjun Mk1A as a gun-launched anti-armour weapon with over 5 km range. It was the preferred choice over the Israeli LAHAT which was trialed in India some years back.

There was even a tripod mounted infantry variant but that too seems to be going nowhere.

Its likely only Arjun specific version so far, hence obvious less priority as a project. Its test was 2 years ago probably, maybe 3 but given small batch size for a small batch of active Arjuns not a surprise to be seen nowhere at present. Right now even the regular priority projects are delayed due to emergency procurement product support. You can see how tests keep getting rescheduled. Due to emergency buying, Invar gets order as T90s are more nos available, frontline tank.
More concern should be with what is the status with the existing ordered Arjun batch that got into the powerpack issue with MTU. Once that batch is inducted there would be scope for CLGM for tests, clearance & finally small LSP. But it is 10+ years away probably.
