Indian Defense Industry General News and Updates

Once screwdrivegiri starts indigenous system won't get any order.
The requirement is so vast you simply can not fill it with imported items alone, the cost is way too prohibitive. For instance the spike ER, its only less than about 3-5 % of the total inventory despite a huge stock we will ever use in battle and upcoming local mfg by BDL. So we have to be smart about inventory management and use case.

Other thing about screwdrivergiri, ever thought how mfg work? whether there are adequate manpower who can operate modern machine ? With a licence mfg, workforce is trained by the OEM appointed specialist on how to run certain machines, precision operation , keeping the machines in good condition everything, which in normal circumstances is not available within the country. Unless you learn the trade how can you operate and make a domestic version of the same product?

The previous purchase of LWT from Italy helped us in a great way to become self sufficient in that domain.

From licence assembly to TAL to now ALWT.

Hopefully we replicate the success in HWT too.

This is a chance for pvt. players to pitch their new innovations. Philippines has sent signals that it is willing to incorporate Indian systems into their armed forces.

Majority of Requirements of Phillipines is in the Maritime Defence Sector.... India can offer Surface ships, Decoys, Torpedos, Missiles, Air Defence Systems like VLSARSAM etc.... other than that India can offer Various types of Drones like Loitering Munitions.

Offer the top-of-the-line P17 with Brahmos and VL SRSAM... they will also think twice.

Who is going to clear the import cases of the major subsystems that are bought from Europe ? Our own shipyards rely on MEA diplomacy for that.
The reason major export do not happen on full integrated system level is due to this, unlike the chinese our shipyards can not offer full integrated package themselves. Even the Govt acknowledge this but here people see funny dreams.

Can you please elaborate? What exactly does India lack? Like which sub systems.

P.S. This is not an argument but a genuine query. I would like to understand which of those imported subsystems can be made in India

DAC clears proposals worth Rs 67,000 crore to enhance operational capability of the Armed Forces
Posted On: 05 AUG 2025 7:57PM by PIB Delhi
The Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on August 05, 2025, approved various proposals amounting to a total cost of about Rs 67,000 crore. For the Indian Army, Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was accorded for the procurement of Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP. This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry.

For the Indian Navy, AoN was accorded for the procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos Fire Control System & Launchers and Upgradation of BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System. The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions.

For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Mountain Radars and Upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System was accorded. The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region. The upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability.

AoN was also accorded for procurement of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three Services. The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. They will significantly enhance round-the-clock surveillance and combat capability of the Armed Forces.

In addition, DAC has also accorded AoN for sustenance of C-17 and C-130J fleets and comprehensive annual maintenance contract of S-400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System.

It is mentioned many times before that for export cases we as domestic mic are yet to graduate into a full scale system integrator. Only when we have companies that are capable as the full system integrator like the foreign oems (with own supply chain system) then the export market will be more productive tous as a full system seller. So far our companies only export small lru units, some btp / bts items mostly btp. None are yet at the scale of offering a fully integrated product for use, like the chinese or eu or usa oem co do. This is one reason why dcpp is being encouraged and diversified for more pvt companies to step up.

BNVD-P is an advanced panoramic night vision goggles (PNVG) with advanced features and performance so special forces on land or pilots and aircrew in air can accomplish difficult night missions successfully and safely.

With its more than 90deg field of view it offers operators an incredible advantage on the modern battlefield. The ability to observe and engage the enemy without them even being aware of your presence is a formidable weapon.

The purpose of the BNVD-P is to provide the operator more information under goggles, allowing him to more quickly move through the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act). The most striking feature of the BNVD-P is the presence of four separate image intensifier tubes with four separate objective lenses arrayed in a panoramic orientation.
The two right and two left tubes are housed in merged assemblies and are hung from a bridge, giving operators interpuplliary adjustment options. They can also be easily removed and operated as independent handheld viewers.

BNVD-P uses the standard position and adjustment shelf (PAS) for pupillary distance and tilt adjustment and eye relief (fore/aft). It attaches to any helmet.

Capabilities

  • Target Observation and Identification in adverse conditions
  • Built on latest generation 16mm Image Intensifiers
  • >90deg Wide field of view I2 goggle
  • IPD, tilt, and fore/aft adjustments with quick detach / attach locks
  • Available with Helmet mount for use with multiple helmet and mount configurations
  • MIL-STD-810G Qualified

Applications

  • Land Forces, Special operations
  • Aviator Goggles
