Why aren't they under " Make in India" programme?
JFC, Indigo will go for 500 planes.
Nothing ( If Any?)of manufacturing capability will come in India.
Biggest L for Modi government?
Unlike say a Rafale assembly line in India, a A320 or B737 line in India will need enough orders to ensure a minimum around 15 years of production run.

Boeing opening a final assembly line in India or anywhere outside USA is almost impossible.

Airbus already has 4 production lines for A320. 1 in USA for North American Market, 1 in France, 1 in Germany and 1 in China.

Why?
BTW What is the status of Russia's MS-21?
It's a internal jobs issue in USA.

Components manufacturing can be outsourced, but final assembly line is very difficult.

Russian jets , i have no idea. Personally I will always prefer a320 or a b737 in domestic travel.

Time to seriously kick start what we should've done with RTA / MTA more than a decade ago. Instead of re inventing the wheel get into serious talks with EMBRAER for a JV for full ToT with know why & know how for the KC-390 besides buying a stake in it.

Start now for by the time we get a 90 seater RTA ready for first flight it'd easily be 10-12 yrs from today. Once you get there think of upgrading it to a 150 seater & on & on by which time if we've bought a stake in EMBRAER we can think of taking it over, hopefully, otherwise we'd have to make do with imports forever .

NAL signed an agreement with Antonov. But I think NAL doesn't have the capability to do something of this scale.

It's time NAL and HAL get merged. We will surely see better progress on Saras Mk2 and RTA.

I don't know what capabilities does Antonov bring to the table. If they were so good I imagine the big boys would've courted them . In the event even the Chinese didn't bother. We were the only suckers left in the market .

A long time ago I'd argued with Milspec about dividing HAL into 3-4 independent companies with cross holdings of each of these entities in the others . These 4 would be :

1.) Dedicated only to design mfg of helicopters for both civilian & military applications.

2.) Dedicated to design & mfg of FAs.

3.) Dedicated to design & mfg of transport & civilian planes.

4.) Dedicated to design & mfg of turbofans , tubojets , turboprops & turboshafts.

HAL as an aircraft & helicopter plus engine manufacturing unit is too unwieldy in it's present form .

In fact all the DPSU mfg units around India require to be re organised & privatised if need be or given Navratna status & autonomy on decision making & financial powers like in our oil PSUs , be it the ex OFB units or our Naval mfg set ups too .
