Indian Army General News And Updates

Paratroopers have to either win/survive or die. If they win, they will be relieved by other ground forces once they link up with the paratroopers. If they don't succeed in their mission, then they are either killed or captured. Or they have to be rescued by other ground forces, if possible, which means they have to survive as long as possible.

Paratroopers and ground troops have to work in tandem. Which means you can't just take a division and then fly off to Mongolia and drop them in the desert if there's no chance of a link up happening with ground troops.
I was talking about tanks which we are planning to buy so that they can be air dropped.....

Indian Army's Siachen Base Camps, Brigade Headquarters Set To Be Powered By Solar Energy; Contracts Awarded
In a first, the Indian base camps at Siachen and its Siachen Brigade headquarters situated at Partapur in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh will soon be powered by solar energy, report Times of India.

The development has been made public by Union Minister for New and Renewable Electricity RK Singh. Singh revealed that the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) which runs under his Ministry has awarded the contracts for setting up of two solar-storage power plants, one each at the two aforementioned locations for round-the-clock power supply.

The project at Siachen will meet the lighting and heating needs at Base Camp I, II and III, while the project at Partapur for the Brigade headquarters will meet similar needs of the Indian Army's 102 Brigade which holds the overall charge of defending the strategically located glacier.

The completion of these vital projects will reduce the Indian Army's dependence on diesel for running generators and more than halve the cost of power.

Singh shared that while presently the per-unit cost of power at the Siachen base camps is as high as Rs 24-25, this will come down to Rs 9.89 per unit once the project is completed. Similarly, the cost of power will come down to Rs 10.34 at Partapur. The tariffs have been fixed for a span of 25 years.

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has cleared a project to establish a secure communication network for the Indian Army that will include modern optical fibre cable links to forward areas, with Public Sector Undertaking ITI set to implement the Rs 7796 crore plan.

The defence ministry has said that the new Army Static Switched Communication Network (ASCON) will provide a “big boost to the operational capability of the defence forces," given the current operational situation on the border with China and provides an opportunity to the PSU to give an “impetus to the Indian economy”.

The project will lead to a complete upgrade of military communication systems that will shift to Internet Protocol (IP) / Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Technology. “Optical Fibre Cable (OFC), Microwave Radio and Satellite will be used as communication media,” the defence ministry said.

Officials aid that the project will provide better survivability, responsiveness and high bandwidth in any operational scenario and enhance the communication coverage of network close to international boundaries, like the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where tensions have been simmering with China since May.

“The project would augment the communication network of Indian Army in the sensitive forward operational areas which in turn will provide a major boost to the operational preparedness of the Indian Army especially keeping in view the current operational situation at LAC,” the ministry has said.

The network will extend the high bandwidth communication to the remote operational areas in Central and Eastern Sectors and enhance communication reach to the forward locations in the Western border too.

The project will have indigenous content of about 80 percent, with official saying that it would come as a boost for the industry as well. “The project involves execution of civil works, laying of OFC, tower construction, etc.and with utilization of local resources, hiring of manpower, it would generate employment opportunities especially to the people in remote border areas, support and boost rural economy, assist in upliftment of the local of the local economies, provide skill development during the prolonged period of execution and maintenance of the network,” the ministry has said.

In order to meet the long pending demand of the Indian Army the Cabinet Committee on Security, has approved the proposal for establishment of Army Static Switched Communication Network (ASCON) Phase IV Network to be implemented by M/s ITI, a Public Sector Undertaking, at an estimated cost of Rs. 7796.39 crore with an implementation schedule of 36 months from the date of signing of the contract. The contract has been signed with M/s ITI Ltd. on 01.10.2020. The project is a strategic and theatre area communication network which will upgrade the existing Asynchronous Transfer Mode Technology to Internet Protocol (IP) / Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Technology. Optical Fibre Cable (OFC), Microwave Radio and Satellite will be used as communication media.

The project will provide better survivability, responsiveness and high bandwidth in any operational scenario and enhance the communication coverage of network closer to IB/LC/LAC. The network will extend the high bandwidth communication to the remote operational areas in Central and Eastern Sectors and enhance communication reach to the forward locations in the Western border too. Thus, the project would augment the communication network of Indian Army in the sensitive forward operational areas which in turn will provide a major boost to the operational preparedness of the Indian Army especially keeping in view the current operational situation at LAC.

Further, with approximately 80% indigenous content, the project will provide a boost to the Indian Industry. The project involves execution of civil works, laying of OFC, tower construction, etc.and with utilization of local resources, hiring of manpower, it would generate employment opportunities especially to the people in remote border areas, support and boost rural economy, assist in upliftment of the local of the local economies, provide skill development during the prolonged period of execution and maintenance of the network.

The project is also a big opportunity for the public sector to showcase its capability and provide an impetus to the Indian economy and will be a step in the direction of achieving the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
