Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said the number of pilots in the Indian Air Force at present is 3,834 as against the sanctioned strength of 4,239.

Had we inducted the Pilatus as previously planned we'd probably have a surplus of pilots. @Milspec
 
So no real shortages for the operational squadrons, the above number is for approved. Fighter alone there is a gap of 10 squadrons thus if you multiply by 1.2 (Which is approved strength per aircraft) its 200+ pilots not needed.

Did I mention the type of pilots we would have turned out or did you assume I assumed the Pilatus is exclusively for training fighter pilots?
