India - United States Relations

I am just asking what is in it for us in this trade deal. Look at this tweet from Modi.

We will know only after the details are out of the deal. But regardless, this is very very bad optics and timing for GOI.

The tone & Language of the tweet. The narrative manipulation through insinuating Modi - Eipstien ties due to a name mention in email b/w two unrelated people and the tone of that email itself. This is classic case of psychological narrative through word association.

Who the fuc+k is managing narrative & info warfare of GOI?

I won't go into the new low of dynasty by trying to link a abhorrent crime ring that is associated with Epstein and siting PM of India via manipulation.

Let things get in order. The document needs to be signed for things to get rolling. We can analyse who got what based on the actual papers. Ignore the press releases/statements. I said the same for the EU one as well.
If you look at Trump’s tweet, he is highlighting all the major points that are beneficial for the USA. Then, look at Modi's tweet; he is just highlighting how good Trump is. WTF

I agree to a certain extent. DJT also said that SoKo will invest 500 Bn and UAE has promised 1Tr. These will come as standard. The rest are industry/vertical quotes with no details. Essentially that is just a better framed press statement that's all. What are the major confirmed points that you are talking about? Energy was already under discussion. For the past 3 years its been on and off. Modi's statement is just a vanilla okay thank you. I prefer if he does not make a fool out of us by talking big about the deal based on promises. The actual document would be better.

"Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement"

This is all that was said in the praise. The rest is flowery language that both used in the opening.

Weak MEA like language sure. However, that's standard IFS speak. Cannot expect anything else from them.

If I am going to chastise the man, I would rather do so on the basis of what he got done.

So apparently a deal with 18% tariff has been agreed. Good if it holds...that would be a lower tariff than any ASEAN state, Bangladesh or Pakistan*. Major competitive advantage for exporters.

It seems we'll also have a major hand in refining the sour crude (which most refineries elsewhere in the world can't handle) unlocked in Venezuela.

*Pak & BD are already fuming over the EU FTA and how it'll eat into their business big time, now there's more for them to worry about.

It makes a lot of sense to expand our systems globally. We should make it easier for ppl to spend on our system. Chinese have created very good accessible platforms for selling their goods across the world.
This is a f*cking terrible idea. India worked hard to create a public rail so you don't end up with private wallets. And you want to directly hand the reigns over to enemy fintech to skim off every Indian transaction? Besides this is a trojan horse to a Chinese SWIFT - I guarantee it.

You've just made a gazillion trade deals, use it to build and promote UPI and think twice about which private wallets you want to enable on top.

Woah Woah Woah.. This is for cross border payments. No one is selling UPI or handing it over. This just enables UPI with Alipay within China and others with Alipay. You go to china. You go to a shop and just like how our shopkeeper have paytm, they most likely will have Alipay. So, just download Alipay and pay. Just like how you use Gpay, Phonepay here to pay. No exchange hassle, no cash.

We already have had such partnerships with UAE, FRANCE and other nation i don't recall right now. Edit:- Checked and found this As of late 2025/early 2026, UPI is operational in Bhutan, Singapore, UAE, Mauritius, Nepal, France, Sri Lanka, and Qatar.

So chill. Have you not seen Paypal, Mastercard, Visa been integrated on websites ? This is same but with a strictly payment platform.

Domestic market is regulated via RBI and i dont recall any mention of a new payment platform entering into the market.

And yup, i too believe that this is first step ( pilot project to check by enabling low value payment ) towards creating a mechanism to bypass Swift. For BRICS. Look at development of last 3-4 years regarding UPI partnership for cross-border payments.

we are not handing over anything to others , we are just making it accessible. Its just not chinese but also to other major platforms.

exactly , this enables shoppers to shop on their platforms easily. ppl need not just see Rupees and run away. They will get an option to pay to us.
payment gateways like paypal makes payment easier and makes more goods accessible.

So. Closest ally UK- 10%
Established Cold war era allies soko,EU,japan- 15%
Most southeast Asian - Relationship with US having way bigger dominance ok partnership caller 19-25%

China:- Rival it can't dominate anymore. 37%

Brazil etc:- rival camp, can dominate but failing.

India:- 18%. Alright, you are our ally, but Not at level of soko, japan. I wonder if India specifically made the point to have it at 18% and not 19% 😂😂. 19% would've made it easier for paperwork for US departments, but but but... 18% it is

Folks are reading too many trees in the forest.

Immediately:
US lowers its tarrif on goods from India to the point that any export from India is cheapest in Asia.

In future, may be?
India and US deal will come whenever it is ready. No time frame fixed. Noteworthy, US China "deal" is stuck for .... an year.
India is still importing 1.2 million barrels of Russian Oil. Meanwhile margin of discount of Russian oil has gone down to $2-4 per barrel. Russians have a terminal and refinery at Nayara which will keep on importing.

India got certainty in tariff reduction. Rest is all up in the air. LOL!

Trump claimed 0 tariffs on US goods while keep a cap of 18% tariff on indian export to USA. He ckaims india will import agri products too. If yrue, too bad that we didn't agree this some 6-8 months back, if i am not wrong this is what US want from beginning, we opposed these terms and now accepting. What a disaster on diplomatic front.

I think Japan & soko is asian country. Japan have only 15%, soko was charged 15% initially and now 25( this can go to original 15% in near future).
