India - United States Relations

India has a basic problem, as it see it, I've just googled that 20% of overseas students intend to return to India after studies,
This "brain drain" has to impact on India's development, When other nations get the cream

The diaspora also projects India's soft power as we tend to integrate well with the local population. We are generally seen as law-abiding and hard-working people. We often set the benchmark by which other immigrant communities are measured.

At the same time Indian immigrants tend to have keep ties back to the home country. If the GoI follows China's path and compensates researchers with what they're getting on the open market, I won't be surprised if they can be attracted back home to work on key projects of national security.

The main problem is Indians themselves. It's so easy to make them feat things. The way of recruitment is so outdated, yet if anyone tries to bring a reform in it, our population go bonkers.
Case in point, Agniveer. No reform is perfect in it's first iteration, but that's the genius about reforms..you can tweak them as need evolves.
But this roadblock that things shouldn't change is very hampering for our economy and growth.

The Indian foreign ministry said its relationship with Russia was “steady and time-tested,” and should not be seen through the prism of a third country. Addressing a weekly presser on Friday, spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said India’s broader stance on securing its energy needs was guided by the availability of oil in the markets and prevailing global circumstances.

Please do read this one. You'll find nothing but alarmist notions. However, you will find a ton of Pakistani trolls hitting out at Modi or the RSS or even against Indians in general in the comments. The concerning thing is that when you ask them about how their relationship is with India or the US, they will deflect at all costs. All the bravado in the world could not get them to a better tariff margin - 19 percent. The oil discovery that is to be jointly explored with the US is a joke. Coincidentally, the co-correspondent is Pakistani.

Only proper negotiating tactics will work here. No amount of kow towing will help you get a better agreement. I hope Indians who are actually reading more about this issue can understand this particular aspect.

While Washington continues to chastise New Delhi for maintaining energy ties with Moscow, fresh data reveal a contrasting Western strategy. Russian pipeline gas exports to Europe surged 37% month-on-month in July, climbing to 2.65 billion cubic metres, according to Reuters calculations. Despite loud geopolitical rhetoric, European buyers are steadily ramping up purchases through routes such as Ukraine and Turkey, benefiting from price drops and supply stability. The increase underscores the EU’s pragmatic dependence on Russian energy, even amid sanctions and efforts to diversify.

US is losing the war, they need excuses so they are picking on easy targets. They cant do anything against china so they picked on India. India should give back in kind, thats where we are lacking.

Just say India is conducting a military excercise with russia near ukraine border or US ships will temporarily not be allowed to dock in Indian ports , no bank loans for students studying in US universities....etc they will think twice about playing these games. Just look at social media/meda how they keep slandering India and get away with it.

So the plan all along was for the EU to turn back on the Russian oil taps, reducing their pay to the Indian negotiated rate while keeping India out of the supply. The MS shenanigans against Nayara might be arm twisting because they're tax sheltered in Ireland and cowtowing to EU policy!

To secure US trade deal, key ministries told to list what they can bring to talks table

bending backwards to a bully will only encourage the bully. If they want a deal let them come to us. This problem started bcos India jumped first enthusiastically showing more eagerness. Need to drive home the message it should be a fair deal , 0 for 0 . Not 25% for 0, we can certainly can give them 0% duty in sectors where they are totally uncompetitive.

The official statement released by the MEA in response to the statements made earlier today:

India has been targeted by the United States and the European Union for importing oil from Russia after the commencement of the Ukraine conflict. In fact, India began importing from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict. The United States at that time actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets stability.

2. India’s imports are meant to ensure predictable and affordable energy costs to the Indian consumer. They are a necessity compelled by global market situation. However, it is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia. Unlike our case, such trade is not even a vital national compulsion.

3. The European Union in 2024 had a bilateral trade of Euro 67.5 billion in goods with Russia. In addition, it had trade in services estimated at Euro 17.2 billion in 2023. This is significantly more than India’s total trade with Russia that year or subsequently. European imports of LNG in 2024, in fact, reached a record 16.5mn tonnes, surpassing the last record of 15.21mn tonnes in 2022.

4. Europe-Russia trade includes not just energy, but also fertilizers, mining products, chemicals, iron and steel and machinery and transport equipment.

5. Where the United States is concerned, it continues to import from Russia uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry, palladium for its EV industry, fertilizers as well as chemicals.

6. In this background, the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security.
