The European Union and Indian navies have taken over a ship used by pirates off the coast of Somalia to seize a Malta-flagged tanker, the EU force said Wednesday.

The Iranian fishing vessel called the Issamohamadi had been abandoned off the coast of Somalia following their seizure last week of the Hellas Aphrodite, which had been carrying a load of gasoline from India to South Africa. The pirates used the Issamohamadi, a type of traditional ship known across the Persian Gulf as a dhow, as a “mother ship” for a series of assaults capped by their taking of the tanker.

A team from the ESPS Victoria, a Spanish frigate, boarded the dhow and said the Issamohamadi’s original crew on board were in “good condition, safe and free.” Iran has not acknowledged the seizure of the ship.

The pirate group “operating in the area has been definitely disrupted,” the EU naval force’s Operation Atalanta said in a statement. EU forces “have gathered evidence and intelligence of the incident that together with the evidence collected on board Merchant Tanker Hellas Aphrodite, will be submitted to support the legal prosecution of the perpetrators.”

ohhh wait we got a update on the p75I.
The Indian Navy is acquiring submarine deterrence with Project 75 I (air-independent propulsion or AIP) submarine set to sign this financial year.
Price negotiations are currently underway and the government has set aside some ₹42,968 crore for acquisition of six submarines to be constructed at Mazagon Dockyards Limited with AIP being provided by German firm ThyssenKrupp Maritime Systems.

A build time of 31 months would put us on par with Japan and SoKo. Shishir Gupta doesn't mention the tonnage either. Iirc, it took ~7 yrs for INS Nilgiri to be commissioned and that too with modular construction tech.

thats quite normal for first of class ships. IF you take Mahendra giri for example the keel was laid on 28th june 2022 and it will be commisioned by next year. Thats four years or about 48 months.

Compare that to the mogami class which is nearly 1000 tonnes lower and was underbuilt from their initial plans. they only have about 16 VLS cells and hell the first six ships were commisioned without their VLS cells. this is the reason they maintained a 30 month keel to commision rate. only from the 7th ship onwards did ships come with their 16 mk41 VLS cells from the start.

We can improve massively with our own navy building and are actively improving with a large amount of private shipayrds also stating to be involved in defence manufacturing but we are not so bad lol. We do need to improve massively though to even hope of a chance to compete with china in the IOR let alone outside it.

P17A was also the first time we did modular construction at that scale so the delay was anticipated since we need to break in but now the keel to commsion times for the p17B will be a lot lower since It shares a lot of hull characteristics with the p17A class and we have decent expertise in modular construction. It takes time to build a competent industry and we are starting to see the initial fruits of the labor today

The 43,000 crore figure is from when the RFI was 1st issued. The actual figure is likely to be around 60,000+ crore.

The article doesn't say whether build time is 31mo from keel laying to delivery or launch to delivery. So I can't make a fair assessment.

Modular construction would work best if MDL outsourced the individual ship modules to pvt yards like L&T and did the final assembly and outfitting themselves.

Cont'd...in fact, modular construction was used for the first time on the Arihant/ATV prog. L&T built the hull sections at Hazira with SBC Visakhapatnam doing the final integration and testing.

INS Khanjar and INS Kora, frontline Guided Missile Corvettes of the Eastern Fleet, arrived in Kolkata for Navy Week 2025 in the Bay of Bengal. INS Khanjar, a P-25 class corvette commissioned in 1991, is known as the “Grey Ferrari,” affiliated with the Kumaon and Naga Regiments. INS Kora, the lead ship of the P-25A class commissioned in 1998, is named after the iconic Gurkha sword and is commanded by Cdr Chandan Jha. The Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day every year on the 4th of December to commemorate Indian Navy's decisive key role in victories. INS Khanjar and INS Kora embody the Navy’s first-strike capability and its commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat.
