Posted On: 14 JUN 2025 11:23AM by PIB Delhi

In the ongoing salvage operations of MV WAN Hai 503, which is under massive fire, the Indian Navy augmented the efforts with the aerial insertion of salvage team on 13 Jun 2025. In a prompt response, the salvage team members were embarked onboard a Seaking helicopter at INS Garuda, Kochi. The Naval helicopter successfully inserted the team on the vessel amidst challenging weather/sea conditions and fire onboard. The salvage team was winched down, who connected up tow with the salvage Tug Offshore Warrior. After connection of the tow, the salvage team was successfully extracted by the Naval helicopter from the vessel. The towing operations of the vessel has commenced.

Presently, Indian Navy's INS Sharda and OSV MV Triton Liberty are actively engaged with the salvage ops in coordination with the Indian Coast Guard and other maritime agencies. This swift insertion and extraction of salvage team by Indian Navy has significantly reinforced the rescue efforts.

RFP for 7 P17B and 2 Multipurpose Vessels to be out soon.

Cost negotiations going on for 3 Scorpenes and 6 TKMS subs.

L1 & L1 decided for 8 NGC program.

Concern: 3 remaining Rajput Class to retire soon and 3 Delhi Class to retire by 10-15 years. And we have no Destroyers on order.
P18s need to move in now else we will have the numbers of platform, not the the number of missiles, especially SAMs.

French maritime intelligence firm UnseenLabs raised alarms about a 'hidden' Chinese research vessel covertly carrying out its operations in the Bay of Bengal region.

IN needs space based capabilities ASAP. They need to cover a wide area and these will definitely bolster the ISR in IOR.

Hi,

Are there any updates about the status of the LPD program?

The RFP was released in 2021, and a few interests were registered, including the tie-up between Navantia and L&T for the Juan Carlos-class LHA. But since then, there have been no direct updates. However, when searching for the same, there was an article on an India-UK LOI on collaboration on integrated electric propulsion for warships, and the article specifically mentioned the LPD.

The article in question is this -
The SoI would serve as a broader framework intended for cooperation in the co-design, co-creation and co-production of Electric Propulsion capability for future Naval Ships. The Landing Platform Docks, planned to be built at an Indian Shipyard, are envisaged to have a Full Electric Propulsion System.

Does anyone know more about the LPD program?
