General News, Questions And Discussions - Indian Navy

Fregat radar is currently present on 12 of our warships. It will also be on the 4 upcoming frigates. It is there for Shtil missile system but as we move forward towards the VL-SRSAM, what can be the possible replacement for the Fregat radar?

We are currently using different radars on our capital warships. For example:

1. MFSTAR + RAWL- 02 (P-/15A/15B)
2. Fregat + RAWL- 02 (P-15)
3. Fregat + STAR (P-17)
4. Fregat (P11356)

In future, we will be having:
MFSTAR + Lanza-N

I get confused sometimes, like MFSTAR is the MFR and RAWL-02/Lanza-N are ASR so they make a great pair. P-17 has Fregat + STAR which makes sense as one is ASR and other is MFR. But then why were we using Fregat + RAWL-02 on P-15 class?

PS: Does anyone know which radar are we using aside of RAWL-02 on Brahmputra class? Previously, it was RAWS-03 but now it looks like STAR.

Why is the LHD/LPD so late ?

So, how many frontline ships in the process of being built currently & also in the pipeline?

Also very likely new IAC2 order will also be given since its repeat.
A total 43 vessels are under construction out of which 41 are being built indigenously. Also, a contract for further 20 vessels has already been signed. They will also come under construction very soon.

According to open sources, AoN for 59 vessels has also been approved.
Why is the LHD/LPD so late ?
It got cancelled twice. Aside from RFI which was released 3 years back there has been no progress whatsoever. Though shipyards are very positive about getting the RFP in 2025.

05 Next Generation Survey Vessels: RFP expected in 2025.
This is the first time I am hearing about Next Generation Survey Vessels. Although it was mentioned by GRSE that they are expecting the RFP in 2025, I think they meant the RFI. The RFI will come in 2024 - 2025 followed by RFP.

As of now following are the confirmed vessels in the next generation series:
1. 06 Next Generation Missile Vessels.
2. 11 Next Generation OPV.
3. 08 Next Generation Corvettes.
4. 120 Next Generation FIC.
5. 21 Next Generation FAC

Following vessels are also expected to come:
1. 05 Next Generation Destroyers.
2. 05 Next Generation Survey Vessels.
3. 10 Next Generation Frigates.

Two warships of different classes were launched into the water, while the keel of a third vessel was laid on Tuesday at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) shipyard at Kattupalli in Chennai. All these are being built by Kolkata-based defence shipyard Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE).

The ships launched were Anjadip, the 3rd Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft (ASWSWC), and Sanshodhak, the 4th Survey Vessel Large (SVL) while the keel was laid for the 7th ASWSWC, GRSE said in a statement. Part of the construction has been sub-contracted to L&T Shipbuilding.

The P16As go to Mumbai Naval Dockyard. Are you sure they have changed bases?

Further add the Kamorta Class under ENC (quite big ships , and once VL SRSAM is fitted, actually a frigate). Can also add the Kora/Khukri class Corvettes. They are big ships.

Veer class for the WNC.
