Railway employee working for Pakistan's ISI arrested in Punjab

Acting on a tip-off received from intelligence agencies, the Ajnala police in Punjab have arrested a railway employee, allegedly working as a spy for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The accused has been identified as Ramkesh Meena and was working as a class IV employee with Indian Railways, posted at Atari railway station.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vikramjeet Singh Duggal said the police have recovered photographs and videos of BSF officials, border installations, and the Samjhauta Express from the accused.

Interrogation has revealed that Ramkesh was filming the Atari railway station, Samjhauta Express train. He took photographs of BSF officers and meetings of the intelligence wings.

Police sources said the accused would send photos and videos to his Pakistan-based handlers. He had also filmed some of BSF posts.

Cyber experts are trying to retrieve data from his mobile phone to find out more.

A case has been registered against the accused in Gharinda police station. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.

Pakistani ISI plans pumping 2b INR by 2019
Pakistani ISI plans pumping 2b INR by 2019

Unfortunately, the issue of fake Indian currency is a huge problem that’s been growing in recent years. Counterfeiters are becoming so clever and the newest notes are made so well, it’s difficult to identify them.

Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) is the official term for counterfeit notes in the Indian economy. Estimates vary as to how many fake notes are in circulation. A study completed by the National Investigation Agency in partnership with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) stated that the value is Indian rupees equivalent to $4 billion.

Fake notes are even dispensed from ATM machines at banks in India, particularly higher denomination notes.

The Indian government has been putting a lot of effort into addressing the issue of fake currency, including changing the design of notes to make them harder to copy and implementing a surprise overnight demonetization of existing 500 and 1,000 rupee notes.

On November 8, 2016, the Indian government declared that all existing 500 rupee and 1,000 rupee notes would cease to be legal tender from midnight. The 500 rupee notes have been replaced by new notes with a different design, and brand new 2,000 rupee notes have been introduced for the first time.

However, it didn’t reduce the problem of fake currency. Only three months after the newly minted 2,000 rupee note was introduced in India, multiple counterfeit copies of it were found and confiscated. There were even instances of fake notes being issued in the name of the “Children’s Bank of India” and dispensed from ATMs.

The Reserve Bank of India’s 2017-18 Annual Report, which was released in August 2018, also indicated that the new currency notes aren’t necessarily more secure or less prone to counterfeit. There was a 154 percent increase in the number of fake 50 rupee notes detected in 2017-18 compared to 2016-17. In addition, the number of detected fake 2,000 rupee notes grew by 2,710 percent, while fake 500 rupee notes jumped by 4,871 percent.

The Indian government believes that the notes are produced by foreign racketeers in Pakistan, on-demand from Pakistan’s military intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). India’s National Investigation Agency found that fake Indian currency was used by Pakistani terrorists involved in the 2008 attack in Mumbai.

According to news reports, the main motive behind Pakistan’s printing of the fake notes is to destabilize the Indian economy. It’s a major issue for the Indian government, which aims to make the counterfeiting of Indian currency an offense under the country’s anti-terrorism law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

In August 2018, the Indian government disclosed that from the date of demonetization up until June 30, 2018, nearly 43 percent of fake Indian currency seized was in Gujarat state. A further 15.8 percent was recovered from Uttar Pradesh and 14.4 percent in West Bengal. Significant amounts of fake currency were also found in border states including Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. However, the problem is no longer restricted to border states. Counterfeit 2,000 rupee notes, which were said to look so genuine it would be hard for the average person to identify them as fake, were recently seized in most of the cities in the country.

Until now, although counterfeit INR had been identified as those had actually been manufactured by various crime rackets under the direct supervision of Pakistani ISI, but since 2018, Indian rupee notes are being directly manufactured in the security printing press in Pakistan. According to sources, it is almost impossible for anyone to detect those counterfeit currency notes, which are printed in the security printing presses. It said, ISI has a plan of pumping at least two billion counterfeit Indian rupees by 2019, most of which would be circulated by the members of jihadist outfits named Hizbul Mujahedin, Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB) and Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).

Pakistan is believed to have numerous counterfeit currency networks operating out of Nepal, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia are also used as transit points. Majority of the stake of dealing in counterfeit INR is being handled by a sacked Bangladeshi military officer named Md. Shahid Uddin Khan, who maintains a huge network within the Indo-Bangladesh common borders for pumping counterfeit INR into India.

Mumbai could be Jaish’s target, says Indian intelligence

Jaish-e-Mohammed, the Pakistan-based terrorist group, is looking to scale up attacks on security forces in Jammu and Kashmir as well as economic targets in cities such as Mumbai, intelligence agencies have told the government.

The assessment comes a day after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan declared that India’s decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir could lead to “Pulwama-like incidents”, even trigger a conventional war between India and Pakistan.

It is a statement that is being seen as an indication of Pakistan attempting to ramp up its support to terror groups, even push terror groups to throw all that they had.

A senior security official told HT that around the time Imran Khan made the statement, came news that Rauf Azghar, the younger brother of Jaish chief Maulana Masood Azahar had moved up to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after meetings in Rawalpindi yesterday.

Rauf Azghar’s shifting closer to the border between the two neighbours ties in with reports emanating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir about a large number of Jaish recruits shifting from its camps in Punjab towards the border.

In the hinterland, a top government official said, the intelligence establishment assesses that there could be attacks against some infrastructure and economic target.

The intelligence bureau suspects the Mumbai could be one of the targets on the radar of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, an official said, attributing this assessment to a string of inputs that had been received.

This set of inputs includes intelligence reports that a three-member Jaish team had been assigned the task of carrying out an attack in Mumbai and local sleeper cells had been activated.

The security establishment had anticipated much of these emerging developments.

This is the reason why National Security Adviser Ajit Doval landed in Jammu and Kashmir for a last-minute review of the security preparations with army and paramilitary commanders along the Line of Control and beyond.

The Centre had also told state police agencies to step up security at key places.

PS: Clear foot print of ISI and Pakistani government

Congress functions as company, they are all mafia people. Chairman is Sonia and vice Chairman is Pappu , other stake holders are priyanka and Vadra. Its a firm which only sees business through forming government and can get corrupted or corrupt anybody. They can go to any level even conspiring with foreign intelligence to get back the hold. :)
This discussion can be continued in political thread, but if there are refrences or pattern which can lead that they have conspired with the foreign intelligence against the state then can be put here.

Political disturbance In Kashmir is one example of Pakistan influencing elections in India. They increased the momentum of their proxy war and psywar, PDP-BJP alliance went down, opposition started blaming Modi and terror attacks increased, recent one was Pulwama.

This is a tip of an ice berg. Delaying the arms deal , promotion of a particular news is nothing new what ISI has been doing to hurt Indian interest. Stealing the copies of bill by honeytrapping the Indian politicians or putting a particular point to promote pro Islamic policies in India in constitution is a part of the larger conspiracy by Pakistani intelligence.

We Indians on otherhand are not able to inflict similar psywar on Pakistani society because the main hold is with the Military.

No sir, hope that was not a sarcasm, I have nothing to do with govt but three things which you can notice yourself which happened recently.

1. Pakistan suddenly making statements related to Indian elections openly. Their intentions are clear. They would try to manipulate Indian elections.
2. Modi being honored in Russia with the highest civilian award
3. Leftists suddenly going low profile on Modi .

Message has been given to the intellectuals and very bad days are coming for all those who sabotage Indian interest from within India especially foreign policy of India , defence deals and line of action with respect to US Russia China and Pakistan.

I have made the analysis like six months ago about ISI's and other foreign intelligence influence into Indian electoral and Political system and I was encountered by resistance on this forum.

Suddenly things have started to get exposed. Congress speaking as Imran Khan and Imran speaking as Congress, Many refrained or voted against A370 scrapping in the parliament. What does it prove? And slowly Imran Khan speaks about RSS and compares it to Nazi and says Oh well India is now Nehru's India and rather Modi's and RSS's India.

This is bizzare even to expect such kind of Propaganda exactly what Congress and others said. This means that whatever Congress said was planned at high level or was anti National. Because if your enemy uses such propaganda then it obviously understood what is going on.

ISI agent was on 8th visit, got visa for religious places

Ambala, August 25
Pakistan national and ISI agent Ali Murtaza Asgar (32), who was nabbed by the police on August 14 from Ambala Cantonment, was sent to judicial remand after the completion of 10-day police remand on Sunday.
He was produced before a court today and then shifted to Central Jail in the city.
Sources said the Intelligence Bureau and the police have recovered crucial information during the remand and his interrogation would continue. Murtaza belongs to Karachi and has been visiting India over the past three years. It was his eighth visit in July-end. He was travelling from Punjab to Delhi when he was nabbed from the Ambala Cantonment railway station.
During the remand, important documents related to Army establishment have been recovered by the intelligence agencies and he was taken to various locations across India, including Gujarat and Hyderabad. Sources said over the last threes, the ISI agent had been in various locations, including Haryana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Hyderabad, and was passing on information to the ISI.
He was involved in espionage activities and was sharing information related to Army establishment at Ambala, Punjab and other locations.
Ali reportedly works for an IT company in Pakistan, and entered the country on the pretext of visiting religious places. ISI network busted in Bhopal

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh police on Thursday busted a terror-funding network “run” by Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan by arresting five people.

One of the five arrested persons, Balram Singh (26), was arrested in February 2017 on similar charges and was out on bail. All of them were arrested at different places in Satna district in MP, the police said Four others who landed in police net have been identified as Sunil Singh, Shubham Tiwari, Bhagvendra Singh and a local operative whose identity has been concealed by police in the interest of investigation, the police said.

The arrests were made following a tip off by Uttar Pradesh anti terrorist squad (ATS). All the five arrested people have been handed over to ATS of the MP police for further interrogation.

Satna district superintendent of police Riyaz Iqbal has confirmed arrests of five people. The police seized cell phones, a laptop and SIM cards from their possession.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that they were used by at least 13 Pakistani handlers for transferring money raised through cross-border lottery racket to ISI "spies" in different parts of India.

They were keeping in touch with other alleged ISI operatives spread across different parts of the country including Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, through social media messenger, the police said.

ISI terror network busted, 5 held in Madhya Pradesh

The Pakistani establishment, and when one says pakistani establishment, its clear who it is. So the establishment will not miss any opportunity to use these Kartarpur . The Kartarpur issue will be publicized through foreign handles and there could be a possibility that something might happen where India has to close it and the Pakistani establishment some how would make it look like India's fault. And this is one reason why India removed some names of Sikhs from adverse list as a measure of counter intelligence. There may be some news realted to Khalistan in coming days

Honey traps, deepfakes, AI: Why India’s RAW needs to prepare for threats beyond terrorism

Honey traps, deepfakes, AI: Why India’s RAW needs to prepare for threats beyond terrorism

The devastating 9/11 attack put the global intelligence community in overdrive and forced agencies to reform and retool in order to fight international terrorism. The US Congress, for instance, spent billions of dollars to support the transformation of the CIA and other components of US intelligence. Following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, India’s security architecture too underwent changes and has since been able to unravel numerous terror plots.

But the world today is confronted with security threats that go beyond terrorism.

n 2018, it was reported that a senior IAF officer was sharing sensitive information with two women he had befriended on Facebook. It was later discovered that he had been honey-trapped by a spy agency that was using fake social media profiles. Certainly, the officer knew that he was acting against the Official Secrets Act. But the incident itself is a testament to how technology can be and is being used for espionage. Since then, many such cases have been reported. It is near impossible to identify the different ways in which technology can pose a threat to intelligence agencies.

While the top brass can issue orders to be mindful of sharing sensitive information with strangers on the internet, it should be the mandate of the RAW, as India’s primary external intelligence agency to train its workforce to identify such threats and employ strategies to mitigate them. Simultaneously, the RAW should also see how it can best use emerging technologies to achieve its goals.

There is still no evidence of the adversary breaking into the top-level in India and reported episodes to show that honey-trappers usually try to spread fake news. That, however, is no reason for India’s intelligence community to not break out of the status quo.

In the context of India, the RAW was the first intelligence agency to recognise the need to have a technical cadre, which included officers in surveillance tasks such as satellite monitoring, terrestrial monitoring. Unfortunately, it has not been able to match the rate at which technology is progressing. This asymmetry leads to the state being responsive, not proactive.

New technologies will likely be integrated into the functioning of the Intelligence Bureau under its new leadership. This should be the approach of the entire intelligence community in India, regardless of jurisdiction or mandate.

If anything is to be learnt from the 26/11 Mumbai experience, it is that intelligence agencies must stay ahead of the curve, adapt to these rapid shifts and not jeopardise the nation’s first line of defence.

Scary world of AI
Not just social media, the application of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the nature of threats that countries today have to tackle. WIRED carried a story on extended corporate espionage and how Chinese hackers were able to gain access to Boeing’s military transport planes. This is just one instance in which technology was used as a tool of intelligence. The world is yet to fully understand the influence of Russia’s social media platforms on the 2016 US presidential election. Episodes like these beg for a change in the approach to national security. Not just nations, even non-state actors such as ISIS has weaponised social media in a manner that was unheard of previously. As far as we know, India has thus far been successful in mitigating threats of such scale.

Technology like AI can make it near impossible to break into the adversaries’ networks. Earlier this year, Elon Musk’s ‘Open AI’ created an AI application that excelled at mass-producing fake news. The AI was so good at generating misinformation that the company decided not to release it. Similarly, AI-based generative adversarial networks (GANs) can be used to generate entirely new human faces and have them target powerful networks for information.

Spies have actually already used AI-generated social profiles to connect with their targets. A fake LinkedIn profile made under the name Katie Jones had made high profile connections in the US administration. This included “a deputy assistant secretary of state, a senior aide to a senator, and an economist being considered for a seat on the Federal Reserve”. Emerging technologies are levelling the playing field and increasing the demands made of intelligence agencies.

What should RAW lookout for?
A common theme in tech-based intelligence attacks is manipulation of information networks. This was on full display in the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal and in the Katie Jones case – both of which beg the question: what should India’s intelligence agency RAW look out for?

AI-driven espionage and threats can be carried out remotely with limited resources. Moreover, because of the rate of advancement in technologies, threats evolve at a rapid pace. Since platforms such as Facebook do not have a clear deepfake policy or one on AI-generated content, these tools of misinformation can be deployed at scale without little warning. Moreover, even when you manage to completely debunk a piece of dangerous content, it does not mean that it won’t be shared further.

A technical solution to a technical problem is obvious, but not sufficient. Because the algorithms learn by competing with each other, any deepfake detectors are unlikely to work for long before being outsmarted. This makes the role of human agents in intelligence indispensable, regardless of the scale of the advancement of technology.

The elementary solution to this is two-fold. First, India’s RAW should train its workforce so that it is able to harness technology to the agency’s benefit. Analysts and field operatives should have a foundational knowledge of emerging technologies and how they can potentially threaten national security. The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) is an excellent agency and can fill the gap for RAW, so that there isn’t a need for officers to go deep into the technical know-how. But elementary knowledge should be mandatory.

Second, the agency should not shy away from suitably collaborating with experts in matters that require deep subject knowledge. The RAW, like its counterparts across the globe, is being forced to move faster, but sometimes this comes at the cost of digging deeper. This is because the RAW needs to scan an expansive landscape, now including the online landscape, to monitor and collect information, while also processing and analysing it to actionable items.

Combining intelligence with data from other government sources like the NTRO and open-source information can minimise the uncertainty and miscalculation that were previously unavoidable in espionage. Some of these capabilities are available in the open market. For instance, facial recognition software—mostly developed by private companies—allows governments and law enforcement agencies to store and search vast numbers of faces. There are a plethora of existing systems that can simplify the work of intelligence agencies while reducing inaccuracies.

NTRO sucks big time no doubt. There is no difference b/w NIC and NTRO or BSNL and that's a solid truth. People in government have no knowledge about technicalities because they are not recruited on the basis of talent but some stupid qualification and most of the things get outsourced silently , pay and get the job done.

The threat level from unknown advarsaries will always be high be it ransomware or malware or some one working for foreign intelligence but in short the problem and threat starts from your phone which you use.

The most important area of AI where it can really find out who is who, is the pattern building. You use your phone for communication over social media and communication apps and your traffic gets analysed and a name less profile is created given a number. Where ever you go, you will have a pattern of internet usage and that is your personality stored in adversaries computer unless until a false pattern is disposed to traffic analysis. You can't escape :)

I have always been taken lightly on the forums and banned from threads but what ever I post or analyze it is the solid truth! I have been shouting about foreign intillegence having spread their network in India thrugh many channels and now there is emminent threat phase II of adversary to use that network with help of AI for info gathering.

This is not the first time thez have began their activities in Nepal. In this case post Pulwama is the cause followed by Chinese Premier's upcoming visit to accomodate the agenda once again ISI has landed up in full force in Nepal.

oh well this artical is in Hindi , English version some one else may post. Please cope up. Thanks

Welcome!

That is correct and I gave more emphasis on the word 'hack'. Of course the real numbers are not mentioned here what and how many times they hacked Indian data bases or the vice versa. My point was there was and still there is serious attempts especialy from the chinese. And this is the reason why 5g program has been made indigenous now.

I didn't read the thread but going by the thread heading and own experience, espionage us easy in India.
At least on one occasion I got entry into a restricted zone in Mumbai by paying a crate of beer to the security guard. It doesn't cost much to buy off favour from Indian security staff
