Absolutely. CAG reports looks like a hit-job.
No brother. DRDO has done an amazing job in turning India into a self-reliant military superpower. Of course, they're not perfect, in fact far from it! But does that mean they are crap? Hell No!Yup! Without DRDO It would have been at much higher level. LoL!

Only highlighting failures and shortcomings while leaving off all the positives sounds really fishy. At least they should have highlighted the successful projects like say Astra. But no.
I never said that DRDO is perfect, but this report?? CAG is blaiming DRDO for DCMAWS project of MKI. We all know that this project saw delays and the earlier Israeli collaboration could not bear fruit. But as of know, pod based DCMAWS has been developed and very soon our MKI shall have it. And once again it's state of the art Dual Colour MAWS(developed by the same DRDO!).
Can't blame DRDO for everything. Su-30MKM has an in built MAWS and it literally is almost identical to MKI. Why IAF didn't chose the same configuration? The failures and rot run much deeper than DRDO, IMO.

That is not CAGs work. They are auditing accountability for the tax payer money. CAG is not doing journalism.
They blocks all kind of imports for the sake of "indigenous".It was DRDOs choices and decisions no one else. Thus their failure.
These things directly translate to handicapped capabilities for services. DRDO tried to block import of ALTAS for last 30 years now they closed project without reaching milestones. Today two-third of the fleet is without towed array sonar. And you think it's a hit-job ? That too by an independent government organisation.
Remember, INS Khukri sank because they didn't have proper sonar to detect the Pakistani submarine. One day history could repeat. Maybe, Then we can come back and decide the blame? The word hit-job would make perfect sense then
Untill we have an alternative, we are stuck with DRDO. And we need to improve it, and the first step of improvement is acceptance that something is wrong.

when will that happen? its not just DRDO which is culprit here. When every govt just wants to maintain the status-quo why will any thing change?
why does not the current govt which is in power for more than 8 years just close the project & send the slackers home. Govt took so long to even take on OFB.

All you've said is correct. I never denied DRDO's shortcomings. But DRDO has also done some great work. It needs to be acknowledged. BVRAAM, ICBM and much more.
Replacing DRDO with some private R&D firm as some are suggesting post this CAG report will be a big blunder in my humble opinion.

Yes, DRDO is our key towards indigenisation and self-reliance. They may not be perfect and may have failed more than succeeded. Yet they have done a commendable job and we should be proud towards our scientists rather than bad-mouth them.
We are discussing a specific CAG report on mission mode projects between 2010 and 2019. Report clearly mentions how many were really successfully closed.
This issue is with closing projects as successful without reaching predefined milestones. Which the CAG rightly highlighted as loss of taxpayer money.
Let private player build rockets and crash into indian ocean for fun. No body cares. It's their risk and money. In DRDO's case it's public money thus they should be called out.

I would like to know CAG members & their background/what sector they specialise in. If it is fully finance & law guys committee then there is a good chance they went on ticking a list of objectives & may have oversight on tech projects. This is similar to scientists groups having to handle the bureaucratic part of the process, like tendering posts, inspection sometimes etc.
Similarly govt is also not happy with DRDO missing timeline etc, stated by the RM on one occasion. So the idea should be a reform of some labs, part of it has happened after covid & last year to increase productivity (see the below picture graph), relieve some technical process off the scientists & in the hand of tech nodal officers like in pvt sectors.

I'm really happy the way private companies are getting involved in any competition. For example the AA gun where L&T developed everything in house but some companies went and collaborated with foreign companies to learn the know-how.
Now, they will also try to develop everything in-house to keep the cost low and the competition will become even better.

The docs are NDA/very restricted related so only posting as little as possible. Apparently timeline is approx 48-52 months for the radar one, 44 months for the maws. BEL makes the maws. Radar one I don't know, maybe astra/data pattern?

Yes, almost the same. Both are Airborne Warning and Control systems. Indian AEW@C has 270° coverage(Netra) while Indian AWACS has 360° coverage(Phalcon).
No not much idea as of yet. Did see EW suite being discussed in BEL concall.
