NEW DELHI: After repeatedly blocking United Nations sanctions against Maulana Masood Azhar, head of the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad, China has prevented the issuance of a Red Notice against Salafi preacher Zakir Naik, who is wanted in India for terrorist activities.

The current president of Interpol is China’s Meng Hongwei, a trusted lieutenant of Chinese President Xi Jinping who could have been instrumental in blocking the Indian request to the global police body to issue a Red Notice against Naik, top sources in Interpol said.

Meng is said to have been instrumental in the arrest by Egyptian authorities of nearly three dozen Uyghurs wanted in China. The Red Notices against the Uyghurs were issued at the behest of China, and Meng had pursued the matter with the Egyptian government for the execution of the Notices, the sources said.

Agencies in India suspect that Malaysia could also have backed Naik’s case before Interpol. The Malaysian government suspects that India was instrumental in a pro-democracy movement three years ago in that country which irked the ruling regime. This could also be the reason why Malaysia granted permanent residency to Naik. India is planning to request the Malaysian government for his extradition.

“The NIA’s request for a Red Notice against Zakir Naik was not accepted by Interpol as the charge sheet had not been filed when the request was submitted to the Interpol headquarters. Now NIA will submit a fresh request to Interpol as a charge sheet has been filed in the NIA court concerned in Mumbai,” National Investigation Agency (NIA) IG Alok Mittal said.

Naik was declared a proclaimed offender in July this year by a Mumbai court and was chargesheeted by the NIA in connection with a terror case on October 26. Naik was chargesheeted for “deliberate and malicious acts” to outrage religious feelings by promoting enmity and hatred between different religious groups in India.

What reason has the Chinese given this time ? These smaller pseudo-islamic nations will be the long term trouble creators for the world in the future. Malaysia , Turkey , Egypt all potential troublemakers and terrorist sympathisers.

We are moving towards this Cold War in Asia now.

Instead of guessing who could possibly have blocked the notice, writer should have highlighted the actual reason for cancellation which is because even the charge sheet had not been filed when the request was submitted at the time of request.
Shoddy journalism at best

It maybe shoddy journalism but we can't neglect the fact that this organization is lead by a chinese person and he will leave no stone unturned to sabotage our interests.

That's like putting blame of our own incompetence to others. It's our agencies which left a loophole to allow them to ignore the notice.
His citizenship is not much of a concern.
BTW its very naive to not consider Chinese as hostile. If someone thinks that Chinese will support us, then he is a fool and bound to fail.

There are many easily available videos and proof against that guy but to build a solid case of foreign funding detailed investigation is needed and for that a Proper grilling of accused is needed. I am not trying to defend investigative agencies but chinese would not leave any stone unturned to create trouble for us. I would take these actions as pretext to create similar problem for them. Unless we up the ante chinese won't behave. perhaps we should impose some more restrictions against chinese goods or chinese companies operating in india or maybe some gifts for them in Baloochistan.

Its easy to come up this kind of theories to hide the failure of our investigation agencies. Interpol has given a detailed explanation how it's premature' to issue a notice.

Click bait , click Tait or whatever this doesn't change the fact that head of Interpol is a chinese and chinese won't leave any stone unturned to create trouble for india using their positions in different world bodies like unsc, nsg and now Interpol. Where have you seen the detailed report of Interpol answer given to GOI ? And what about initial lookout notice issued for same guy ? Was that done without any prima facie evidence ?

What a logic !. Interpol President is chinese so it must be a conspiracy. Anymore evidence than guesswork?. general Secretary is German does that change your narrative? Multinational organization heads cant work in favor of his country. NSG membership blockage was a diplomatic move using their right as the current member. In UNSC also they have every right to defend their position. Interpol is nothing like these two institutions. Its run by law enforcement officers, not diplomats.

You can check Interpol website or twitter handle for the detailed explanation.

Sounding different is hobbie for few, that doesn't mean one should start taking a stand that has its own logic to justify anything. Guy heading Interpol is associated with chinese ruling elite and questions would be raised about impartiality of that guy. Again does that change answer to last question . Was initial notice issued without checking prima facie evidence ?

Whatever logic to support your story.

Again, why do guesswork when there is official explanation. And its signed by GS not president. Germans are behind this !.

Whatever logic to support your story.

And who do you think has given you divine knowledge and told you that you are the only one born on this planet earth to have right logic.
Whatever you feel is not always right, sooner you accept better this world will be for you .

You have very comfortable skipped my question that on what basis initial look out notice was issued ? I can easily say that you are acting like a myopic guy and take only those points that suits your narrative of being different.

UNSC is an organization, NSG is an organization and Interpol is also an organization . Person heading it has some levers which can be used to settle political scores for their country. Just because a document is signed by a Certain Tom Dick or harry that doesnt mean he is the only person who is behind content mentioned in the document. I guess you need some more experience to understand how various organizations or even even a small companies work.

Say tomorrow you get terminated that doesnt mean final decision to terminate you would be taken by the HR person who signed it. Order would come from much higher to execute or implement it.

It's not that one is right and another is wrong here. But it is the approach to the incident which is different.
As per you it's others(china) fault, which is very convenient btw.
While according to him putting blame on others is useless, if you (India) yourself are not doing anything useful.
It's click bait article as rightly said by @Ashwin only for people high on nationalism

LOL, it's like mohan lal left the answer sheet blank in exam and is now blaming hostile headmaster for his failure.

Zakir Naik cries foul as Interpol takes up India's request to take an action against him
Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who is facing NIA probe over charges of committing unlawful activities in India, termed the reports claiming Interpol taking up India's request to issue Red Corner Notice (RCN) against him, "a political witch-hunt".

"I'm aware of the pressure the Indian government has been applying on the Interpol to issue a red corner notice against me. It's part of an elaborate witch hunt," Naik said in a statement. The statement from the Islamic preacher comes Interpol reportedly accepted India's request to issue a RCN against him. "I have no reason to believe that Interpol will succumb to any kind of undue pressure," he contended."I can confirm that there is no red corner notice against me as of date.

One of the Indian newspapers seems to have jumped the gun and reported internal deliberations of the Indian government, which as a matter of fact, has been going on for over two years now," he added.Naik is facing probe both in India and Bangladesh after two suspects in the terror attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka in July 2016 claimed that they were inspired by Naik's radical preaching.

The two were staunch followers of Naik on Facebook and on the Peace Television Channel. The terror attack had left 22 people dead. He also said that the Interpol has already cancelled a red corner notice against him earlier. "...It's been one-and-a-half years since the government submitted a charge sheet and started applying pressure on the Interpol," Naik added.

The 52-year-old currently holds a permanent residence status in Malaysia, which was confirmed last year by then-Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Last month, Enforcement Directorate arrested Zakir Naik's trusted aide Abdul Kadir Najmudin Sathak for allegedly "actively assisting" him in money laundering. According to ED, the money laundering was done through "dubious" origins from UAE to facilitate production and broadcasting of incriminating videos for spreading communal hatred and radicalisation of a particular community.
