Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile : News, Updates and Discussions

I suppose international diplomacy came into play. And the fact that Abhinandan got caught, which enabled diplomacy to work in Pak's favour. After 2019, the Pakistanis worked overtime on their FATF ball and chain, which was likely part of the deal brokered by the US to prevent escalation.

Based on the IN and IA Chief's comments, IN was to follow up with Brahmos attacks somewhere. And the next step on the escalation ladder was for the IA to initiate a limited war.

It seems like Abhinandan threw a monkey wrench into our plans. Public opinion switched towards rescuing him. The Pakistanis took their time in returning him, and that was enough time to cool off tensions. Things would have been different if it wasn't for him getting caught.
Sure...

When was the last time a Pak Army chief talked about burying the Past
And Moving Forward , that too after
Getting a pounding for TWO years

You must read P-D-F to see how much they hate Bajwa

But those idiots dont know that Bajwa
Is talking of peace because his Army has lost the Will to Fight India
What made India lose the will to sustain escalatory pounding at LoC?
Intl pressure,
it's budget,
Logistics.
Fatigue,
Elections
Covid

All of the above?

I wonder where the flight tests will happen. We don't have a flight test platform. Russia again ?

It's going to Russia for tests. 4:15 onwards.

Incidentally , the Nirbhay is deemed by the DRDO to have cleared all it's trials pending induction into the armed forces as per the DRDO here . I wonder what the delay is all about . More to the point , what's the ITCM all about .

Recently there were speculations that the Nirbhay was tested but since there wasn't any communication from the DRDO / MoD , it was also speculated that the tests may not have met all the parameters or that further tests would be carried out in a few days post which communication to that effect would be made public.

Saurav Jha has tweeted that no test of the Nirbhay was carried out in the past few Days. This video although 4 months old seems to validate such a notion.

The ITCM looks increasingly like a case of changing requirements by users at the 11th hour. The Nirbhay's range is less than ideal. When the project started you could say that we don't have all the tech needed to make a longer range missile. That argument doesn't hold anymore.

I hope we get some clarity soon. It will be disappointing if the ITCM ends up with the same specs as Nirbhay.

There was a NOTAM out if I recall correctly. Maybe Nirbhay used as a platform for testing components meant for the ITCM.

Original Nirbhay was not built according to a particular service requirement. They have finished the development now its up to services to induct it as what it is if they want to.

Now four different missiles are coming out of the Nirbhay program which is fully according to different specific service requirements:
  • Land-based: Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM)
  • Ship launched: Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM)
  • Air-Launched Cruise Missile : (ALCM)
  • Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM)
Thus Nirbhay was closed as a Tech Demonstrator (TD) from my understanding.

Last summer ,we had definite reports indicating deployment of Nirbhay in view of the situation on the LAC .

This year at the Aero India Show you've got a senior personnel of the DRDO make a comment on the status of the Nirbhay indicating approval of manufacture by the armed forces followed by induction which in her words is imminent .

Beyond this , I really don't know what does one comment on . You could direct your post to you know who & easily fill up 3-4 pages in a day or less & be none the wiser at the end of it all .

Nirbhay was never ordered or inducted thus no "deployment". DRDO offers n number of "failed" programs to services from prahaar to Rustom-1. Their words doesn't mean much.

You don't have to take every post personally. I didn't even disagree with you.

So , as per you , the Nirbhay won't be inducted because you deem it as a failed product whereas several technologies developed during the course of the Nirbhay would be utilised in different iterations of the ITCM & there's a definite requirement for such missiles immediately given the situation on our borders .

What ??! Where did I take it personally . I merely made the said comment in jest.

Mere three successful test out of seven developmental trials , and people seriously believing military had ordered this so far unreliable, mediocre ranged cruise missile & put it in to service.

By the way what happened to prahar? its a successfull missile in all its tests asper reports

This was the one with a 700kms range being tested. For Paxtan , the IN or the ICG has a policy of firing even a 700km range Brahmos or any other missile from less than 100 km range . What to do ? Since 1971 IN has the nasty habit of considering Karachi as it's home port .
The problem is detecting targets , tracking targets and then ,guiding the missile at such long ranges.
