I dont get the insistence on using MSME yards for smaller vessels.

MSME products might be cheaper but the design may not be world class.

Its simple. India wants to grow its shipyards. To do that you need to give orders to smaller yards and give them enough confidence in orders to expand. Its not always about being cheaper. You can harp on all you want about making India a top 5 shipbuilding nation but you need to actually help your shipyards.

"Listen, clothe me, shoe me, for God's sake feed me, let me ride that horse a bit and you'll have your patents" - Indian Pvt. Shipyards. This is probably applicable to the entire Pvt. IC (bar few).

Lines are from Knight's Tale.

INS Sanshodhak, the fourth and final Survey Vessel (Large) in its class, strengthens the Navy’s hydrographic capabilities. The 110-metre vessel is designed for coastal and deep-water surveys, collection of oceanographic data, and can also support helicopter operations, HADR missions, and limited combat roles.

L&T Multi-Purpose Vessel

What a beauty. looks like a proper warship - but its not.
Max speed 15 Knots, less than economical speed of 18 knots for most IN warships.
However, these auxilliary vessels are force multipliers, leaves other ships to focus on war fighting.

Look at the massive crane at the back. Could be used as USV mothership.
Potential for UAV/UCAV launcher as well.
