The only advantage Kfir has is that it's extremely cheap upfront. Israel itself used the fleet for like 25 years only. So service hours are there.
so what? you think even if we win ( which is a long shot) we will be able to fulfill the order on time.
The quickest option is Kfir. But even that will take 24 months for reactivation of full squadron. And another 12 months for some other upgrades.
So technically speaking, if orders are placed with HAL, they can start delivering 18 Tejas to Argentina within 3.5 years. Capacity is there.
how much are we producing now? 16-20 max per year, we need around 80 units for ourselves . so the lines would occupied until 4 years.
If we add a new line , probably yes we can.
More than that we need to get engines from uncle sam who might not be very interested seeing any future competition from non-western country.
Although I'm not too sad. Tejas is too niche and early immature to be exported. I just hope they keep producing tejas mk 1's and continue to upgrade in blocks. The Koreans are proposing to putting maws on wingtips of the fa-50. I hope there's a mk1b in the future along with further upgrades. The tejas airframe is extremely flexible and it still has 300kg empty useless weight. Mk1 and mk 2 both should be produced side by side. The tejas mk1 has right now completely replaced the mig 27 and mig23's even to a certain extent the mig 21. It can carry more weapons than mig 23/27 series and is better at bvr too. We just need to scale up it's manufacturing.
THe mk2's can then replace the Mirages and mig 29's along with the mig 21 completely.
The tejas mk1 can be used uptil the 2060's. We have a really great aircraft in our hands hope we just integrate western weaponry and south african weaponry. It will be huge export success in the future.

With current infrastructure upto atleast 24 Aircrafts can be made if say an order for 120 pieces were given. Further now plans are being prepared to start another line at Nashik too.
Then why don't we ramp up mk1A production to full capacity and switch over to mk2.
I think Mk2 model is yet to get green light to be made. Or some negative secrecy around there .
Mk1A is not ready for production yet. And sub contractors will need a bigger order for more speed.
Ex: Alsthom was given a order for 800 locomotives to be produced over 10 years. CLW with its current production rate could have done it in 3-4 years. But we wanted a new factory. And you don't establish a factory for 5 years , right?
The sub contractors are all new at it and Government hasn't exactly been efficient. They are unlike the DPSUs, a business.
We should give an order for 24 MK1A (12 single seaters and 12 twin seaters) .
The 12 twin seaters along with the existing order of 18 twin seaters would ensure that the full capacity is used , untill MK1A is ready for production.

Mk16 LG vs the K36. This might be done. The tires, that also definitely can be done.
