Akash Series Surface to Air Missile System

One thing I have noticed is that our missiles instantaneous speed right after launch are significantly slower compared to advanced foreign systems, even in the case of quick-reaction surface-to-air missiles (QRSAMs), which are supposed to engage threats within very short timelines........slower initial acceleration could be due to conservative propulsion designs, use of lower-energy propellants + structural limitations of the airframe........this shortcoming directly affects missile’s performance in time-critical scenarios and limits its effectiveness against modern, high-speed targets..... this issue needed to be addressed fast.......improvements in propulsion technology + structural robustness to deliver higher initial thrust without compromising reliability or safety is a must.
VL-SRSAM is quite quick right after its launch. Its instantaneous turning ability is also very good.

30 km range figure is official, and has been for a while now. Here's a DRDO poster from Aero India earlier this year (see top-right corner):

Yes, this is sub-par. This thing is longer, larger diameter, and significantly heavier than Barak-8 and yet obtains only less than half the range. Is that fishy? Yes it is.

What's even fishier is that the QRSAM is smaller & weighs 70kg less than this, and apparently still attains the same range.

You reckon were going the Agni 5 way with this and understating the range?

No such compulsion exists here.

It's probably what Marich01 said below:

You also need to consider the high G pulling. Its made for a good kill probability. 30 km min is the expected range for the project deliverable hence they quote this.

Perhaps we're going for a fuel with extremely high burn rate in order to serve a specific AD purpose.
