Now that the UK likely won't be involved in the EU's Galileo positioning satellites, it's in a tough spot. How does it get the most accurate navigation technology it can once Brexit is official? By building its own satellite network, apparently. Sources talking to The Telegraph claim that Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered the creation of a UK-built satellite positioning system, with up to £100 million (about $128.5 million) set aside for "mapping out" how it would work.

An official announcement could happen as early as this week, according to the insiders. It's not clear when the country would want an operational network, although that's likely to depend on the results of the initial study.

Any self-developed network is likely to be expensive (one estimate put it at £3 billion), and it's easy to foresee opposition to the plan if made official. The country does have strong incentives to build its own satellites instead of relying on others, though. The UK might not have access to Galileo's most accurate encrypted signal, and the US reserves its most accurate GPS data for its own military. An in-house system may be the only way to get the kind of location accuracy and security British armed forces would want.
LOL.

GB can only purchase 12 flying old duck for it's two brand new carriers, it's not to developp a new satellits constellation.

I smell jealously from people with only 1 carrier operating 4th gen turkeys. The money saved will be more than enough to pay for our own GPS. In fact, the WTO tariffs on Peugeots:poop:, Citroens:poop: and Renaults:poop: alone will probably be enough to cover it.:D

Why is everyone laughing here on this news, this is a wonderful opportunity for collaboration between India and UK, ISRO set up the NAVIC 7 satellite regional system for $327 Million, we are adding 4 more satellites for expanded coverage and thus the total cost will be less than $500 Million.

So, even after taking profit margin into account, India can do a deal with UK for $2 Billion for a 24 satellite Global network, this will be a win-win scenario for both the countries, UK can boast to EU about their independent navigation system and India can boast about their space exports. What do you say? @BMD
You think uk will collaborate? The intelligent stuff is done by every country in the world including USA and excluding us

There might be security reasons for not including India, especially if it's to be used for military GPS. Nobody quite knows what side India is on.

A sole NUCLEAR carrier.
A sole OPERATIONNAL carrier.

Better my sole strong dick than two of your own small stuff

Uk will retaliate by becoming a space power
(I was laughing at Europe not uk and what they have lost

Who needs GPS anyway, we've got Ordnance Survey Maps and I'm sure we can get some compasses from China on the cheap. There was no such thing as GPS back in the war and we done alright then! ;)

That's not a strong dick, it's a dildo Angela Merkel stuck in your ar5e.

Two new carriers with stealth jets vs a decrepit 20 year-old pile of radioactive waste with 4th gen clay pigeons.

Wake me up when the first GB carrier will be ready to go to war (ie with a COMPLETE fleet of planes. Not 12 ...).

I think I will have a very long rest.

The French carrier will also be unmatched... but only for delivering defeat.
In Lybia, along with the GB eurofighters unable to fire LGB alone, The sole european carrier was the Charles de Gaulle.

Were was the Royal Navy? under the sea....

The CdG was never ready to go to war, it's a floating wreck.

The Eurofighters did drop EPWIIs alone. And you call that a war?

A dream because it always gives them a giggle.

a laugh of jealousy

RN already loosed all its skilled in carrier handling and operations. Needs years to overcome... But it's a good news in fact, because you will not have enough planes even just to train (12 .... :ROFLMAO: ).
