General Upendra Dwivedi will be remembered as the one who started the transformation towards drone warfare.

The question that should arise is - Will you take such incidents seriously and take actions against them?

A video showing a convoy of soldiers riding bikes was recently shared on social media with the false claim that they were heading to Delhi's Jantar Mantar to support the ongoing protest. However, an investigation by the Press Trust of India's (PTI) Fact Check Desk found the claim to be false. The video does not show soldiers travelling to Jantar Mantar.

I was wondering why sh!t quantities of ATAGS, Pralay, Pinaka have been ordered and why there have been no orders for MGS, TGS, fixed Dhanush, ULH, Surya, etc. etc.

Then I asked AI to give me the force structure of the apex leadership of the Indian Army:

Appointment / PostArm / Branch
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS)Armoured Corps
Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS)Infantry
GOC-in-C, Northern CommandInfantry
GOC-in-C, Eastern CommandInfantry
GOC-in-C, Western CommandInfantry (Parachute / Special Forces)
GOC-in-C, Southern CommandArmoured Corps
GOC-in-C, South Western CommandArmoured Corps
GOC-in-C, Central CommandInfantry
GOC-in-C, Army Training Command (ARTRAC)Infantry

Well lookie here, not a single person from the Artillery arm! And that too in this age of non contact long range warfare where the Artillery arm which oversees drones, tube artillery, rockets & missiles ought to be in total command?

Me thinks your Indian Army has a structural problem...

The Army has inducted 450 indigenous Nagastra-1R loitering munitions, its largest single batch of such 'kamikaze' drones till now, as it scrambles to build a bigger precision-strike arsenal after Operation Sindoor.

Loitering munitions hover over a target area before diving into it with their warheads. The Nagastra family has already been battle-tested. Defence minister Rajnath Singh said earlier this year that Nagastra drones had hit terrorist targets with precision during Operation Sindoor.

The drones are made by Nagpur-based Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd (SDAL), earlier known as Economic Explosives Ltd. The Rs 158-crore order was placed in June last year under the emergency procurement (EP) powers given to the armed forces after the hostilities with Pakistan last year.

SDAL in a statement on Tuesday said that it was the only one of four firms in the trials to meet all operational parameters. The contract required it to be delivered within a year. It took a little over a year.

The order is a follow-on to an earlier EP contract for 480 Nagastra-1 drones, inducted in 2024. The first 120 were delivered to the Pulgaon ammunition depot in June that year and the full lot came in by December.

I wonder how many of the lessons the IA has fully implemented and executed in the video below regarding:
- having drone recce units embedded and controlled directly by artillery for TA
- using a system like GIS ART (AI-based assignment of targets to guns)
- dispersal of single guns vs old school lines of artillery
- secure battlespace C2 using JioSpace (LEO constellation)
etc.

And countering these same lessons learnt by the enemy?

The IA has been using tactical UAVs like Searcher-1/2 for arty fire correction since the early 2000s. In fact, all UAV assets were under the control of the arty corps up until recently. They have now been placed under Army Aviation but infantry, arty and armour will also have organic drone/LM capability.

The Shakti AC2S is a GIS based application afaik.

Since the IA is moving to combined arms brigade structures, atleast some arty units will use rapid dispersal tactics.
