BEL Concall

Definitely, in all submarine program or ship-based program, major electronics comes from BEL. Of course, in these programs, especially this P-75I program, there will be some foreign component also, because the foreign partner is working with MDL and of course, indirectly is working with us also.

So, some foreign component with good indigenous content will be there. But there are some components which are homegrown and which will be inducted as part of this. So, I can again tell you more than 50% to 60% of electronics in this program will be from BEL. And we are in
very, very advanced stage of discussion with MDL and with this foreign partner of MDL for that program.

So, there are around 6 subsystems we call as part of the submarine program. Their technical names are Communication Suite, Navigation Complex System, The Combat Weapon Control System, Combat Information System, Torpedo Fire Control System, Missile Fire Control System. Like that, some subsystems are there, which are primarily all our electronics driven. So, these all subsystems will be part of our BEL kitty.

The final step before the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clears the 8 billion Euro deal for six German-designed submarines to be built by the Mazagon Dock in Mumbai, will involve an examination of the deal, particularly the transfer of technology worth roughly Rs 5,000 crore. A government-appointed technical evaluation group is to examine the deal, particularly the areas relating to the technology Thyssenkrupp, the German firm, has promised.

Highly-placed sources said: "The group will look at various issues. A significant amount is being invested in the technology transfer. We must know what we can do with it and how useful it will be in the long run."

An all-clear from the evaluators will be the final step, as the ministries of defence and finance have cleared the deal. The National Security Council Secretariat has done the same. After an all-clear, the CCS will clear the deal, and the contract between Thyssenkrupp and MDL will be signed a month or two later. Work on the submarines will begin soon after, and the first of the six should be with the Navy by 2032-33.

The Navy has plans to build an additional three Thyssenkrupp submarines in the future, as it is short of submarines, and six of them (four Russian and two German) have been in service since the 1980s.

three additional P75I subs seems dumb considering the P76 exists and is actually easier to scale considering L&Ts involvement. Could be a mistake from the author of the article.
They are paying a lot for "ToT". It would be dumb to not use that and not building more of a good design. Indian Navy requires numbers.
